On March 28, the National Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Demonstration Experimental Platform (Daqing Base) released its 2023 data results in Beijing. The data covers seven fields: meteorological environment, components, inverters, brackets, energy storage products, photovoltaic systems, and optical storage systems. It provides supporting services and empirical reference for the high-quality development of the photovoltaic and energy storage industries, and provides a basis for the country to formulate industrial policies and technical standards.

At the press conference, Yao Xiaoyan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of State Power Investment Yellow River Company, introduced that the National Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Demonstration Experimental Platform (Daqing Base) is the world's first outdoor empirical experimental platform for photovoltaic and energy storage, and is the first in China approved by the National Energy Administration. The "national brand" empirical experimental platform is built and operated by State Power Investment Yellow River Company. The platform has four major functional orientations of "demonstration, experiment, testing, and certification". During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, more than 640 demonstration experimental plans are planned and arranged, with an installed capacity of approximately 1.05 million kilowatts.

"Since the establishment of the platform, it has released 7 empirical experimental data results in alpine and high latitude regions, and undertaken 8 cutting-edge research projects. The first set of many new technologies and new products is widely used on the platform. Through a series of quantitative analysis of data, an optimization design plan with the highest efficiency and lowest cost for the outdoor operation system is proposed, and the data results are applied to the great practice of building a new power system." Yao Xiaoyan said.

Xie Xiaoping, director of the Academic Committee of the National Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Demonstration Experimental Platform, conducted a comprehensive interpretation of the 2023 empirical experimental data of the National Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Demonstration Experimental Platform (Daqing Base). In the photovoltaic field, the three typical design solutions with the highest power generation capacity are dual-shaft bracket + double-sided components + string inverter, flat single-shaft (with a 10-degree inclination angle) bracket + double-sided components + string inverter, oblique single-shaft bracket + double-sided components + string inverter. In terms of energy storage, based on the actual horizontal surface irradiation of 4999 MJ/square meter in 2023, the design utilization fraction of the 5 MW optical storage system is 3323 hours, the actual effective utilization hours are 3189 hours, and the design utilization hours of the 10 MW optical storage system are 2720 hours, and the actual effective utilization hours are 2648 hours. Since the actual energy storage control adopts a fixed threshold value, changes in irradiation intensity make it impossible to charge, so the actual utilization hours are lower than the theoretical hours.

Combined with the platform's two years of empirical experimental data in 2022 and 2023, Xie Xiaoping suggested that the use of inclined flat single shaft support systems can be promoted in high latitude cold and temperate zones to increase overall power generation. Strengthen the research and development of energy storage battery technology, sealing, and materials to reduce the risk of liquid leakage and improve the overall reliability of the battery.

It is reported that as of the end of 2023, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power in China has reached 609 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of more than 55%; the cumulative scale of new energy storage has reached 31.39 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of more than 260%. "In the future, China's photovoltaic application market will continue to maintain high-level platform operation, and it has become an inevitable trend for new energy sources such as photovoltaics to participate in power market-based transactions." Liu Yiyang, deputy secretary-general of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, said at the meeting.
