On March 16, PetroChina's first large-scale renewable energy hydrogen production project hydrogen production unit was successfully put into operation in Yumen Oilfield. The purity of the hydrogen produced reached 99.99%, and was sent to Yumen through hydrogen pipelines, pipe tankers, etc. Enterprises such as the Oil Field Refining and Chemical Factory, Yumen Old Urban Chemical Park, etc. have achieved the full process from production to utilization. As of March 20, the amount of hydrogen sold to the outside world has exceeded 40,000 standard cubic meters.

The project will officially start on August 8, 2023. As PetroChina's first large-scale renewable energy hydrogen production project, Yumen Oilfield has built a hydrogen production station in the old urban area of Yumen City after nearly 8 months of intensive construction. The station includes 3 sets of 1000-square-meter/hour alkaline electrolysis cells and 1 set of proton exchange membrane, with an annual hydrogen capacity of 2100 tons and a purity of hydrogen products exceeding 99.99%.

During the construction of the project, all participating units carried forward the spirit of the Iron Man and gathered collective wisdom to overcome the adverse effects of tight construction periods and severe winter weather. In key processes such as large-scale equipment hoisting, factory construction, spherical tanks and process pipeline welding, winter construction protection measures such as stoves shortened the original 10-month construction period to 8 months. The proton membrane hydrogen production device of the Research Institute of Petrochemical Engineering was also tested in the project. It provides a practical platform for the development of CNPC's hydrogen production technology, and once again creates Yumen's "new" first time and energy "hydrogen" speed!

Relying on the advantages of Jiuquan's new energy development and chemical industry agglomeration in Gansu Province, Yumen Oilfield is the first renewable energy hydrogen production demonstration project in China and the first large-scale renewable energy hydrogen production project in Gansu Province. It makes full use of local abundant wind and light resources, uses electrolyzed water process to produce green hydrogen energy, providing clean energy for chemical, metallurgical, transportation and other industries, and has completed the "oil, gas, electricity and hydrogen" comprehensive energy company layout for Yumen Oilfield. It is also the specific practice of Yumen Oilfield to fulfill the mission of the main enterprise of the hydrogen energy industry chain in Gansu Province and the China Petroleum Yumen Clean Transformation Demonstration Base, which plays an important role in promoting the green transformation of the modern industrial system.

According to reports, the photovoltaic power generation project supporting the project is expected to be put into operation in mid-2024, exploring a path for the integrated development of the wind, solar and green hydrogen industries, which will promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry, promote the consumption of renewable energy, and help realize the "Double Carbon" goal has far-reaching significance.
