On the date in local time, the Chinese Consulate General in Mandalay, Myanmar was attacked with an explosive device, causing damage to the consulate's roof. There are currently no reported casualties, and no organization has claimed responsibility for the incident.

In response to the attack on the consulate, the Chinese Foreign Ministry swiftly issued a statement, demanding that the Myanmar side thoroughly investigate the incident, make every effort to apprehend and severely punish the perpetrators according to the law, and at the same time, call on the Myanmar authorities to comprehensively enhance the security measures for Chinese diplomatic missions, projects, and personnel in Myanmar, to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

On the date, the Myanmar military government strongly condemned this act of terrorism, stating that an investigation has been launched, the perpetrators of the violence will be arrested, and necessary security measures will be strengthened.

Chinese embassies and consulates abroad are official institutions established by China overseas, representing the state's sovereignty and dignity, and should be respected and protected. This attack on the consulate is not only a deliberate provocation against China's sovereignty but also a blatant trampling of international law and the basic norms of international relations. Regardless of who is behind this, China will never allow any force to infringe upon its sovereignty, nor will it tolerate any actions that endanger China's overseas interests.

The turmoil in Myanmar is escalating. Since the military government took power through a coup three years ago, the domestic situation in Myanmar has been unstable, with conflicts and confrontations between anti-government forces and the Myanmar government intensifying. Since the beginning of this year, the fighting has remained deadlocked, with anti-government forces springing up in various parts of Myanmar.

Among them, the ethnic armed group "Three Brotherhoods Alliance" has captured the town of Thandwe in the Bay of Bengal, the border town of Lashio, and several other major towns in the northeastern and western regions, disrupting major trade routes and cutting off some sources of income for the military government. In this month, the Kokang Alliance Army captured the Northeast Military Command Headquarters in Lashio.

Facing such severe challenges, the Myanmar military government has called on opposition organizations and ethnic armed groups to abandon armed confrontation and participate in next year's national elections, resolving the turbulent situation through peaceful means. However, this call has not received a positive response from opposition organizations and ethnic armed groups, and armed attacks and confrontations continue.

It was against the backdrop of ongoing civil war and instability in Myanmar that this attack on the Chinese consulate occurred. Although it is not yet clear who orchestrated and carried out the attack, considering various factors, it is highly likely that the attackers intended to create such a specific incident targeting China to further destabilize the domestic situation in Myanmar, thereby achieving their undisclosed objectives.

Cooperation in maintaining peace is the right path. China and Myanmar are connected by mountains and rivers, sharing a border that has existed for generations. The peoples of the two countries have been close and integrated since ancient times, with a long-standing "fraternal" friendship. Since the outbreak of the conflict last year, China, as a responsible major country, has repeatedly mediated and negotiated with all parties in Myanmar, actively promoting the signing of ceasefire agreements and maintaining peace and stability in the region.

But this attack reflects that some are dissatisfied with China's advocacy and actions for promoting dialogue and consultation, and for halting fire and ending the war, attempting to create incidents and disrupt the situation. China's stance on the Myanmar issue has been consistent and clear. We have always adhered to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, pursued a friendly policy towards all of Myanmar's people, and are willing to play a constructive role in helping Myanmar achieve stability, reconciliation, and development. At the same time, we oppose actions that incite internal strife and civil war within Myanmar, oppose the deliberate interference of external forces in Myanmar's internal affairs, and oppose any actions that sow discord in China-Myanmar relations or slander and defame China.

This stance will not be altered by a single attack on the embassy.
