Awesome! First breakthrough of 1.0 trillion jin!
On the morning of the 28th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the economic performance of the agricultural and rural sectors in the first three quarters of the year. Zhang Xingwang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, pointed out that on the basis of China's grain production being stable at over 1.3 trillion jin for consecutive years, it is expected to break through 1.3 trillion jin for the first time this year. The summer grain and early rice harvests have been successfully reaped. The summer grain output was 146.6 billion jin, an increase of 2.87 billion jin over the previous year, marking the highest increase in recent years; the early rice output was 56.2 billion jin, maintaining stability above 50 billion jin for consecutive years. The autumn grain area has remained stable with an increase, and the large-scale yield improvement has achieved significant results. As of the 26th, the autumn grain harvest progress has reached 72.8%, marking another season of bountiful harvest.
Pan Wenbo, Chief Agronomist of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Director of the Department of Crop Management (Pesticide Management), introduced at a press conference that experts analyzed this year's grain harvest and yield increase are important supports, contributing more than 70% to the increase in production. While the autumn grain harvest is in full swing, winter planting is also underway. Pan Wenbo stated that winter planting marks the beginning of next year's agricultural production. The area of winter wheat sown accounts for about one-fifth of the total annual grain area, and winter rapeseed accounts for more than half of the total annual oilseed. It is crucial to focus on the sowing of winter wheat and winter rapeseed to secure a bountiful summer grain and oil harvest next year.
While coordinating the autumn harvest, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has proactively advanced the work on autumn-winter planting. Comprehensive deployment arrangements were made before the Autumn Equinox. The Ministry, in collaboration with relevant departments, promptly released the policy signal of increasing the minimum purchase price of wheat by a penny per jin, formulated and issued technical guidance on the sowing of winter wheat and winter oilseed rape, conducted training on the "double late" technique of "late harvesting of previous crop corn and late sowing of subsequent crop wheat," and implemented disease and pest control measures such as seed treatment with fungicides and seed coating at the sowing stage, starting from the sowing phase to implement measures for increasing single-crop yield on a large scale. According to Pan Wenbo, from field surveys and feedback from various regions, the progress of autumn-winter planting is generally smooth, with timely clearing of previous crops and most areas having suitable soil moisture, resulting in a slightly faster sowing progress compared to the same period last year.
