Breaking News | Fang Shizhong's Visit, Jointly Released with Phoenix TV "Asia" Global Simulcast
On a certain date, Fang Shizhong, President of Shanghai Media Group, attended the Shanghai-London Film and Television Industry Dialogue in London, UK, as an invited guest at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). He met with Richard Deer, Director of the Creative, Consumer, Sport, and Education Department at the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT), and jointly released the Sino-British co-produced documentary "Asia" with David Weiland, President of BAFTA Global Markets, and Cheng Jian, President of Phoenix TV Europe.
The premiere of "Asia ()" is a significant initiative of Shanghai Radio and Television Station's "Whole Station for Satellite TV, Open Satellite TV" strategy, and a key project to make Dragon TV more urban, comprehensive, and international.
The ultra-high definition documentary series "Asia()" produced by the Natural History Department will hold its premiere in Shanghai on the 10th of the month, and will officially debut on Dragon TV, a subsidiary of Shanghai Radio and Television Station, on the 11th of the month, broadcasting globally in sync. "Asia()" is the first major series to explore the entire Asian continent, crafted by the team behind "Planet Earth" and "Seven Worlds, One Planet". It consists of seven episodes, each focusing on a highly representative habitat, ecological zone, terrain, and wildlife in Asia (including the Chinese region), showcasing the natural wonders and latest discoveries of Asia, and utilizing cutting-edge filming technology to deliver heartwarming, immersive stories to the audience.
The meeting also announced that the project "Forensic Honor," developed by Shanghai Media Group in collaboration with others, has entered the official stage of creation. Inspired by the longest-running series "Silent Witness," "Forensic Honor" is jointly developed by Shangshi Film & Television, a subsidiary of Oriental Pearl New Media. The series tells the story of ordinary individuals in forensic roles who actively face life's challenges, enduring tests through confusion, setbacks, doubt, and uncertainty, ultimately gaining self-recognition and professional glory. The show will follow the evolution of technical forensic investigations from the late 1990s to the present, witnessing the development of China's technical forensic advancements during this dynamic era.
Previously, Fang Shizhong was invited to visit the headquarters and conduct on-site inspections of the historical exhibition room, news studio, program recording hall, and documentary workshop. He gained a detailed understanding of the news production process, special news program creation, news team operations, and engaged in discussions with the global market president and the heads of the natural science department, offline entertainment department, and the Asia-Pacific region department. Both parties reached extensive agreements on jointly broadcasting major productions, co-creating high-quality humanistic documentary works, and jointly expanding the offline entertainment market. They also agreed to expedite in-depth discussions, quickly reach a strategic cooperation agreement, and clarify key cooperation projects and mechanisms for implementation.
Fang Shizhong stated that Shanghai Media Group is currently committed to advancing systemic media reforms, fully implementing the core strategy of "News as Foundation, Culture as Catalyst, Integration as Strengthener," and striving to build a new mainstream all-media group with greater international influence, technological innovation, and industrial competitiveness. Shanghai Media Group places great emphasis on international communication efforts, consistently maintaining an open and inclusive attitude, and sincerely looks forward to deepening cooperation with outstanding domestic and international audiovisual institutions. Together, they aim to create a narrative system and discourse expression that bridges China and the world, effectively amplifying Shanghai's role as a window, not only allowing the world to see China but also enabling China to reach the world.
