One year after exporting the first Crown sedan to the Chinese mainland market, Toyota, a globally renowned automaker, showcased its new large-capacity energy storage system, which has completed verification experiments in Japan, at the 7th China International Import Expo, impressing Chinese entrepreneurs and buyers.
This energy storage system will transform the traditional "inertia" of cars using oil and gas, not only supporting the widespread application of new energy vehicles such as pure electric ones, but also enabling various retired vehicle batteries to be repurposed from waste into valuable resources. Whether they are lithium iron phosphate batteries or nickel-metal hydride batteries, this system can handle them all. Through Toyota's unique power conversion technology, the residual power can be utilized more rationally, ultimately achieving the recycling and reuse of batteries.
The new productive forces currently most closely watched in the automotive industry include green and sustainable energy storage technologies, as well as driving intelligence. Xu Yiming, Director of Brand Communication at Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., told multiple Chinese and foreign journalists participating in the "New Productive Forces" exhibition tour at the CIIE exhibition stand.
The 7th China International Import Expo, which opened on the specified date, attracted approximately exhibitors, including 200 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders, marking a new record in numbers. Similar to Toyota, many enterprises at the expo focused on China's rapidly developing new-quality production forces, aiming to share in the significant opportunities presented by China's high-quality development.
Low-carbon, new materials, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other keywords frequently appear in the enterprise exhibition area spanning over 10,000 square meters, where multiple new products, technologies, and services are debuting and being showcased for the first time. The CIIE Press Center's directory of enterprises related to new quality production includes both internationally renowned agricultural technology R&D listed companies and a robotics enterprise jointly founded by young scientists from multiple East Asian countries less than a year ago. Additionally, a Nordic company with a history of over a century has chosen to launch a global new product in China—a high-efficiency semi-welded plate heat exchanger, demonstrating its commitment to achieving energy recycling through advanced technology.

Toyota's large-capacity energy storage system made its debut outside Japan for the first time. The development of this energy storage system in Japan began several years ago, slightly older than the China International Import Expo (CIIE). The technology has undergone verification experiments at the Yodogawa Thermal Power Plant in Japan, achieving grid-connected power generation. Now, Toyota hopes to find suitable business expansion partners through the CIIE.
Xu Yiming believes that the CIIE is not only a gathering of technologies but also a platform for the collision of ideas. Closely related to the sustainable development of the energy sector, Toyota Motor has participated in the event for seven consecutive years, witnessing the deepening understanding of hydrogen energy in the Chinese market.
"In the first two CIIE, we showcased hydrogen-powered vehicles. At that time, many visitors were 'scared of hydrogen,' asking us 'will this explode?' Now, Toyota's hydrogen-powered trunk logistics in Mainland China cover multiple major cities, and our 'hydrogen friend circle' is forming a network. The CIIE has played a very good role in knowledge dissemination and market promotion," he said.
In recent years, the expansion and quality improvement of the Chinese market have provided enterprises from various countries with broader opportunities for trade expansion, investment, business establishment, and innovation application. Some foreign exhibitors have also noticed that the Chinese government is further relaxing market access, promoting the orderly expansion of opening-up in sectors such as telecommunications, education, culture, and healthcare, while continuously optimizing the business environment and strengthening intellectual property protection.
The current CIIE has introduced a new materials zone for the first time in the technology and equipment exhibition area. World-renowned and industry-leading companies from the United States, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and other countries are showcasing a range of newly developed electronic materials and biotechnology materials.

Dr. Frank Heinricht, CEO of Schott Group, said, "We are showcasing applications of specialty glass 'from the future,' hoping to open up the limitless imagination of the audience and the market for glass."

Representative of the participating party, Senior Partner of EY Greater China Market, Jacky Bi, believes that new-quality productivity is a productivity that has broken away from traditional growth paths, is more integrated, and embodies new connotations. Through the platform of the CIIE, Chinese and foreign enterprises can enhance cooperation and exchange in the field of new-quality productivity.
He analyzed that the CIIE is an enlightening expo, which, through exhibitions, forums, and signing ceremonies, will further encourage Chinese and foreign enterprises to engage in technical cooperation, joint R&D, and collaborative research, achieving complementary advantages. "In areas such as efficient energy storage technology in the new energy sector, China can also enhance its own technological level through learning and assimilation, thereby better benefiting the global supply chain and industrial chain."
From sharing the "big cake" in the CIIE shopping cart to jointly exploring the great opportunities of new-quality productivity, China and the world are mutually embracing. The China National Pavilion at this year's CIIE also showcases the new achievements in the country's development of new-quality productivity tailored to local conditions, with models of the Quantum Experiments at Space Scale satellite "Mozi" and the Chang'e-6 lunar probe on display. Earlier this year, China's independently developed Chang'e-6 carried international payloads from France, Italy, Pakistan, and other countries, demonstrating China's great power responsibility and spirit of openness and cooperation.
