Recently, Baogang Group successfully developed a new specification of high-strength steel specifically designed for extremely cold regions and has achieved mass production and supply. This development provides robust material support for engineering projects in extremely cold areas and injects new momentum into the company's high-quality development.
In extremely cold regions, engineering construction faces unprecedented challenges. Under low-temperature conditions, the performance of ordinary steel plates struggles to remain stable. However, the low-temperature resistant high-strength steel plate developed by Baotou Steel can maintain excellent performance even in extreme sub-zero temperatures.
The author learned from the research team at the Hot-Rolled Plate Research Institute of Baotou Steel’s Technology Center that this high-strength steel for low-temperature service in extreme thicknesses marks Baotou Steel’s first production of its kind. Faced with the special requirements of users for engineering projects in extremely cold regions and challenges such as uniform through-thickness microstructure and properties, the team conducted in-depth research and exploration. Building on existing products, they redesigned the composition and processing routes, developed technologies for coordinated control of smelting, controlled rolling and cooling, and quenching and tempering processes. Collaborating with technicians from the Sheet Plant, they carried out production tracking and timely adjustments to the process flow, ultimately overcoming multiple technical challenges.
After rigorous testing and verification, the performance and quality of this grade steel plate fully meet customer requirements, successfully completing the initial batch supply.
It is understood that this grade of steel plate plays a significant role in modern engineering construction due to its high strength, good toughness, excellent weldability, and low-temperature impact resistance. It can not only be used for load-bearing structural components in bridge construction, such as large highway bridges, railway bridges, and urban overpasses, but also for the design and manufacturing of load-bearing structures like beams, columns, and joints in high-rise buildings, large factories, and stadiums. Additionally, this product is suitable for manufacturing components of various heavy machinery and equipment, including mining machinery, coal mining machinery, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and cranes.
