General Zhang Lixiong was born on November 21, 1913 in Shanghang County, Fujian Province. He participated in the revolution in 1929, joined the Communist Party of China in 1931, and joined the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army in 1932. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of senior colonel and promoted to the rank of major general in 1961.

During the War of Liberation, he participated in a series of battles such as the Breakout of the Central Plains, the Battle of Huaihai, and the march into the Southwest. After the founding of New China, he worked in the troops stationed in the southwest region for many years and retired as an adviser to the Fuzhou Military Region.
