The International Atomic Energy Agency observed damage to meteorological monitoring equipment at the External Radiation Control Laboratory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant during a visit on 5 May, a day after a drone attack was reported, the agency said on its X account.

The equipment is no longer operational, the IAEA stated. The laboratory is located outside the plant's perimeter.

On 3 May, a drone struck the External Radiation Control Laboratory at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, according to a report received by the IAEA from Russian forces controlling the facility. The IAEA team currently at the ZNPP has requested permission to access and inspect the ECRL.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterated his call for maximum military restraint around all nuclear facilities to avoid safety risks.
