Russia's spring-summer offensive is at peak intensity with forces 'expending resources rather than accumulating', Ukrainian command says

Russian forces have entered the active phase of their spring-summer offensive against Ukraine, with the campaign already at peak intensity and Russian troops 'not accumulating resources but rather expending them', Viktor Trehubov, head of the communications department of Ukraine's Joint Forces, said on the national 24/7 newscast cited by Ukrinform. Trehubov said armoured-vehicle use remains minimal because added protection layers only invite one more drone, and that a battlefield saturated with drones is shifting an increasing share of work to ground robotic systems, with warm, dry weather aiding strike activity.

Russian forces have launched their spring-summer offensive in Ukraine and the frontline situation is tense, but the Russians are taking significant losses, Viktor Trehubov, head of the communications department of Ukraine's Joint Forces, said on the national joint 24/7 newscast cited by Ukrinform.

"As of now, they are already on the offensive — this is the active phase of Russia's spring campaign. It is unlikely to intensify further, because it is already at peak intensity," Trehubov said. "The thing is, once they've run out of steam, they'll go and get reinforcements and then try, perhaps, to do something in the summer. At the moment, they are not accumulating resources but rather expending them."

Russian forces are still making only limited use of armoured vehicles because their effectiveness is low, Trehubov said. "Any attempt to add more layers of protection to a tank and turn it into something resembling an anthill is still ineffective. It just means one more drone will be used against it. As a result, armoured vehicles are used minimally, while motorised equipment is used only to a limited extent."

The battlefield is highly saturated with drones of multiple types, Trehubov said, and a growing role for ground robotic systems is expected. Warm, dry weather is also helping increase drone activity for strikes against fixed and moving targets.

Why is armored vehicle use minimal in the offensive?
Trehubov said added protection layers on armored vehicles only invite one more drone, so their use remains minimal due to the drone-saturated battlefield.
How are drones affecting the battlefield?
A battlefield saturated with drones is shifting an increasing share of work to ground robotic systems, with warm, dry weather aiding strike activity.
