When the Red Army soldiers embarked on the Long March, they fought fiercely on the Beipan River, where there was once an iron chain bridge. Now, that iron chain bridge has become the world's tallest bridge, and there are already four bridges spanning across, turning "natural barriers into thoroughfares."

The Huajiang Grand Canyon, with a depth of a thousand meters, is known as the "Earth's Crack." At the bottom of the canyon flows the Beipan River, which runs through the southwest of Guizhou. During the Long March, the Red Army faced immense difficulties here due to the steep mountains and harsh weather. Below the mountains, it was midday with the sun blazing, while on the peaks, the cold wind was biting. The soldiers wrapped themselves in quilts as they crossed the mountains. After descending quickly, they felt dizzy and drenched in sweat. Under such circumstances, the Red Army fought a fierce battle to control the iron chain bridge over the canyon, ultimately ensuring their safe passage across the treacherous Beipan River.

A few years ago, near the area about kilometers away from the Huajiang Iron Chain Bridge in a straight line, the Guanxing Highway Beipan River Bridge spanned across both banks. It was about meters above the Beipan River at the bottom of the valley, making it one of the world's highest bridges at the time. However, its height was soon surpassed by the Hangrui Expressway Beipan River First Bridge. In 2016, the Beipan River First Bridge was completed and opened to traffic, with the bridge deck being 565 meters above the river surface, setting a new record for the world's highest bridge. Now, the record for the world's highest bridge is set to be surpassed again. The Huajiang Canyon Bridge on the Liu'an Expressway, currently under construction, will have a bridge deck reaching 625 meters above the water surface. Upon completion, it will not only be the world's highest bridge but also the world's largest span suspension bridge in mountainous areas with a single span of 1,420 meters.

A river continuously breaking records witnesses the speed and spirit of China. The heroic struggle of years ago laid a solid foundation for today's happy life. The history of the Long March and the current changes and developments together compose the magnificent chapter of Guizhou's land.
