The ringleaders of cross-border telecom fraud criminal groups were given the maximum sentence! The Supreme People's Court released typical cases.

Telecom and online fraud crimes continue to occur frequently and remain rampant, presenting a severe and complex criminal landscape characterized by new features such as cross-border operations, chain-based activities, and violent tendencies. These crimes have spawned a series of illegal activities, including illegal border crossings and unlawful detention, severely endangering the lives and property of the people.

The Supreme People's Court stated that people's courts will severely punish telecom and online fraud and related crimes in accordance with the law, targeting ringleaders of fraud syndicates, human traffickers organizing illegal border crossings for overseas fraud groups, those exploiting minors or students for such crimes, as well as repeat and habitual offenders. This sends a clear signal of intensified crackdowns, compelling offenders to actively return illicit gains and maximizing compensation for victims' financial losses.

Today, the Supreme People's Court released typical cases of telecommunications and online fraud and related crimes adjudicated by people's courts.

坚持依法从严惩处

The recently announced cases include the fraud case involving defendant Huang and others, as well as the case of defendant Yu for fraud and organizing others to illegally cross national borders. These defendants went abroad to establish telecommunications and online fraud criminal syndicates, serving as principal offenders. Yu also organized numerous individuals to commit crimes overseas, and all were sentenced to the maximum penalty of life imprisonment according to law. In the fraud case involving defendant Yang and others, Yang, who had previously been convicted for telecommunications and online fraud, resumed criminal activities and was severely punished in accordance with the law.

聚焦未成年人保护

In recent years, some fraudulent organizations have employed various means to recruit and lure minors and students into becoming "tools" for committing crimes, or have targeted minors and students with scams, causing severe social harm and sparking strong public outrage. Such acts must be severely punished according to the law. In the fraud case of defendant Xiao Moucheng and others, which was recently announced, the defendants recruited and exploited minors to carry out telecom and online fraud. The People's Court imposed heavier penalties on the relevant defendants in accordance with the law, providing strong judicial protection for the healthy development of minors.

全力追赃挽损

In the recently announced case involving defendant Shen Mou-tao and others for fraud and organizing others to illegally cross the national border, the People's Court intensified its efforts and adopted multiple measures to encourage Shen Mou-tao to actively return the illicit proceeds and make compensations. Together with the seized illicit funds, the money was promptly returned to the defrauded victims, fully recovering all verified economic losses suffered by them.

The Supreme People's Court stated that the next step will be to fully advance the crackdown on and governance of telecom and online fraud and related crimes, resolutely curb the frequent and high incidence of telecom and online fraud crimes, and safeguard the safety of people's lives and property as well as their legitimate rights and interests.
