In the early morning of March 28, a group of four reporters set out from Xilinhot City and went to the Dongwu Oil Production Operation Area of the Second Company of Huabei Oilfield in East Ujumqin Banner, Inner Mongolia via National Highway 306 for an interview.

East Ujumqin Banner is located in the core area of the Xilingol Grassland and borders with Mongolia in the north. For tourists, it is famous for having land ports that are open all year round. But what is unknown is that near the local China-Mongolia border, Block 52 of the Aer Oilfield in the Dongwu Oil Production Operation Area is located here.

Liu Gui and three colleagues from the Al Inspection and Maintenance Team are responsible for the daily inspection of 52 fault blocks. More than 30 wells are scattered throughout the grassland. They are patrolled in the morning and afternoon. They have to walk more than 100 kilometers a day and take more than 8 hours. Liu Gui and his partner Yang Jizhong had to set off before 5 a.m. to complete the well patrol task on time.

As the Qingming Festival approaches, the grasslands here are still covered with a finger thick snow, and the outdoor temperature during the day is only minus 11 degrees Celsius. Just as we were about to reach our destination, a sudden "white breeze" hit. The strong wind swept up snowflakes and wrapped the interview car layer by layer. Even the car and the people were blown and shook violently, making it extremely difficult to travel. Working in such weather conditions is the norm for employees in the Dongwu Oil Production Operation Area.

Controlled by Mongolia's high pressure, this grassland is cold and windy all year round, with an average annual temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius. It is jokingly called "one wind a year, blowing from spring to winter" by employees in the operation area. In winter, the outdoor temperature is as low as minus 43 degrees Celsius, and strong winds build snow walls two to three meters high on both sides of the road; in summer, mosquitoes as big as thumbs and fingernails lurk in groups in the grass, flying when people pass by. Black shadows,"even dogs in the well site can be bitten and cried."

This section of the border well patrol road is particularly difficult to walk due to such weather characteristics. The driver told reporters that the road this season "is no longer a road, but a river." Snow on the road melts very quickly, and snow water flows everywhere on the grassland, sometimes even pumping water to clear the silt. Walking on such roads, people in the car often feel seasick. Once the well patrol truck gets stuck, it can only "lie down" in the same place, and experienced well patrols will always have shovels and trailer ropes on the truck.

Well patrols usually go out to work in groups of two, and there is a story behind this rule. There was once a well patrol who guarded a border well station alone for a long time and did not communicate with the outside world for a long time. When others called his name, he had to look down at his badge to know that he was calling him.

In the afternoon of that day, the reporter took the inspection vehicle and went to the well station with Liu Gui. As soon as the car door opened, a sixth-level wind came in, and his hands froze for 5 seconds. The reporter, who was "fully armed" from head to toe, could not even hold the camera stably, but Liu Gui, who was only wearing work clothes, had already started work quickly.:Inspect the well circuit, replace the motor belt, tighten the wellhead packing box... In order to ensure that minor faults can be solved during the well patrol, Liu Gui's pickup truck always contains various common tools and parts. "The well sites are very scattered. If you find problems, it will be too late to go back and pick up things." Liu Gui said.

Working in the wilderness all year round, the well patrol became friends with the local animals. In order to distinguish the border from pastoral areas, local people have set up many barbed wire guardrails on the grassland. Once animals are entangled in the net, they are difficult to break free and need timely help to be rescued. Yin Guangze, a special technician in the inspection and maintenance team, has several experiences in rescuing sex animals and wild animals on the well patrol road. Over time, 68 farmers and herdsmen within dozens of kilometers around took down his phone number.

Sticking to the bitter cold, Dongwu Oil Production Operation Area was one of the top three production units in the Second Company Operation Area last year. In addition to having the best canteen, the latest office building, and the best greening in the whole branch, the will to unite as one family tempered by the harsh environment is also one of the reasons for the high happiness index. Liu Weihui, executive deputy secretary of the operation area, repeatedly told reporters:"We can't just say that we have dedicated our youth to the Arr Oilfield, which has also lit up our youth."

Returning to the office building in the operation area, the reporter saw a pair of eye-catching couplets posted on both sides of the hall:"The northernmost is the coldest and most determined, the straightest, the most beautiful and the most loyal." Liu Weihui said:"If you want to add a horizontal criticism, there is probably nothing more appropriate than 'I donate oil to the motherland'."
