Benchmarking against high-standard economic and trade rules, the Xinjiang Free Trade Pilot Zone has achieved these results.
On a specific date, at a regular press conference held by the Ministry of Commerce, spokesperson He Yadong introduced that the Xinjiang Free Trade Pilot Zone is the first free trade pilot zone in the northwest border regions of China, covering the areas of Urumqi, Kashgar, and Khorgos. Since its establishment in a certain year, the Ministry of Commerce, together with relevant departments, has actively supported Xinjiang in implementing the strategy to enhance the free trade pilot zone, injecting new momentum into promoting westward opening.
He Yadong stated that in promoting trade innovation and development, efforts are being made to actively expand access for high-quality resources from neighboring countries. The "green channels" for the rapid customs clearance of agricultural and sideline products at border ports between China-Kazakhstan, China-Tajikistan, and China-Kyrgyzstan have achieved full coverage, reducing the time for agricultural product export customs declaration from days to days. In building an open and distinctive industrial system, the development of refining, textile and garment industries is being accelerated, and pilot zones for strategic emerging industries such as new energy and new materials are being actively created. The Urumqi Area National Cotton and Textile Trading Center has been officially established.
In the construction of a transportation hub connecting Europe and Asia, efforts are being made to build land port and air port national logistics hubs, the expansion project of the China-Europe Railway Express assembly center, and the multimodal transport customs supervision center have been completed and put into use.
"Next, we will work with the Xinjiang authorities to deeply implement the strategy for enhancing the free trade pilot zone and promote high-level openness," said He Yadong. He outlined two key tasks: Firstly, to push forward the implementation of pilot measures aligning with international high-standard rules, thereby elevating the level of institutional openness. Guidance and assistance will be provided to ensure that businesses can fully benefit from these policies, ensuring the successful replication and promotion of the pilot measures. Secondly, to continuously deepen westward opening, building a demonstration model for high-quality development along the border areas. Efforts will be made to enhance industrial exchange and cooperation between the Xinjiang free trade pilot zone and the central and eastern regions of China. Support will be given to the free trade pilot zone to focus on key industries and carry out integrated innovation throughout the entire industrial chain.
