The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered reporters 'questions on the announcement by the China government of the baseline of the territorial sea of Huangyan Island
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson responded to a reporter's question regarding the Chinese government's announcement of the baseline of the territorial sea of the Huangyan Island.
A reporter asked: The Chinese government today issued a statement, announcing the baseline of the territorial sea of the Huangyan Island. Is this move a countermeasure against the Philippines' enactment of the "Marine Zone Law"?
The spokesperson stated that Huangyan Island is an inherent territory of China. The Chinese government, in accordance with international laws such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone, has delineated and announced the baseline of the territorial sea of Huangyan Island. This is a normal measure by the Chinese government to strengthen marine management in accordance with the law, in line with international law and customary international practices.
The spokesperson stated that the Philippines' so-called "Maritime Zone Act" attempts to solidify the illegal South China Sea arbitration ruling through domestic legislation, illegally incorporating the majority of the Nansha Islands, including the Huangyan Island, and the related waters into its maritime zones, severely infringing upon China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea. China resolutely opposes this and will continue to take all necessary measures in accordance with the law to firmly safeguard its national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
