On [date], Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Canadian Minister of International Trade Mary Ng in Lima, Peru. The two sides had practical and candid communication on Sino-Canadian economic and trade relations and respective concerns regarding economic and trade issues.

Wang Wentao stated that China has consistently ranked as Canada's second-largest trading partner for many years, and economic and trade cooperation has always been a significant driving force in the development of bilateral relations. Both sides should work together to manage and resolve the differences in bilateral economic and trade relations, which aligns with the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples.

Wang Wentao pointed out that Canada's discriminatory restrictions on Chinese electric vehicles, steel, aluminum, and other products, along with its increasingly stringent foreign investment reviews targeting Chinese enterprises, have posed severe challenges to Sino-Canadian economic and trade relations. Canada should take concrete actions, reasonably define the boundaries of national security, and create a favorable environment for Sino-Canadian economic and trade cooperation. China welcomes Canada's reiteration of support for the multilateral trading system, its firm commitment to the principles of free trade, and its adherence to WTO rules. It is hoped that Canada will work with all parties to jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism.

Minister Ng stated that Canada places great importance on developing economic and trade relations with China, and is willing to maintain open communication channels at all levels with China to promote constructive solutions to respective concerns. Canada supports China's role as the host country for the year and is ready to work with China and all parties to ensure the success of the year.
