On the morning of the local date, President Xi Jinping met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during his attendance at the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the world is currently entering a new period of turbulence and transformation. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major global economies, China and the United Kingdom bear the heavy responsibility of promoting their respective national development and addressing global challenges. The two sides should adhere to the strategic partnership positioning, uphold mutual respect, openness, cooperation, and exchange of mutual learning, to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, jointly writing the next chapter of healthy and stable development in China-UK relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that although China and the United Kingdom differ in historical culture, value concepts, and social systems, they share extensive common interests. Both sides should view each other's development rationally and objectively, enhance strategic communication, increase political trust, and ensure that the China-UK relationship progresses steadily, solidly, and over the long term. The two countries have broad cooperation opportunities in areas such as trade and investment, clean energy, financial services, and healthcare, which should be continuously expanded to better benefit their peoples. Both sides should promote the political resolution of hot issues, strengthen global governance in artificial intelligence, and contribute to promoting world economic growth and achieving common development among countries.

Starmer stated that the UK and China share extensive common interests and bear significant responsibilities for addressing global challenges and maintaining world peace and development. The enduring and robust relationship between the UK and China is crucial for both nations and the world. The UK hopes to enhance dialogue with China, increase mutual understanding, and engage in exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of fields including trade and economy, science and technology, finance, healthcare, education, and climate change response, all while upholding the spirit of mutual respect, equality, and candidness. Both the UK and China uphold multilateralism, and the UK is willing to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination with China to promote political solutions to regional hotspot issues.
