According to statistics from the Three Gorges Navigation Daily,:The cargo volume of the Three Gorges Ship Lock in the first quarter exceeded 30 million tons, which is close to the annual cargo volume in 2004 in the early days of the Three Gorges Ship Lock.

The Three Gorges Ship Lock is the largest, most stages and most technologically complex inland ship lock in the world today. It is an important water conservancy navigation facility on the Yangtze River artery. The Three Gorges Ship Lock began trial navigation on June 16, 2003, opened to public ships on June 18, and became official navigation on July 8, 2004. In 2011, the annual cargo volume of the Three Gorges Ship Lock exceeded 100 million tons for the first time; from 2014 to 2023, the Three Gorges Ship Lock has achieved annual cargo volume exceeding 100 million tons for ten consecutive years.
