Promote consumption and upgrade thousands of households to replace old ones with new ones

Xu Xingfeng, Director of Department of Market Operation and Consumption Promotion under Ministry of Commerce, said at the regular policy briefing held by the State Council Information Office on April 11 that replacing old products with new ones for consumer goods involves millions of households and concerns the better quality of life. The Action Plan for Promoting Large-scale Equipment Updates and Replacement of Old Consumer Goods with New Ones (hereinafter referred to as the Action Plan) has clarified the major categories, including consumer goods such as automobiles, home appliances, home decoration, kitchenware and bathroom products.
Reportedly, automotive products mainly support the purchase of energy-saving vehicles and new energy vehicles, etc. As introduced by China Household Electrical Appliances Association, home appliance products are divided into two major categories: electric appliances and consumer electronics. Especially, nowadays, many intelligent products are increasingly used by ordinary households. Home appliances cover more and more product categories, and local areas provide support for replacements of various home appliances based on local conditions.
In terms of the distinction between new and old products, Xu Xingfeng went on to say that in the automotive realm we encourage replacing old, energy-intensive, high-emission, and potentially unsafe vehicles with new energy vehicles or energy-efficient vehicles. In terms of household appliances, some products are water- and energy-intensive, and with age, problems of component aging and safety hazards also arise. We therefore encourage replacing these with low-energy, low-water products. For home decoration and kitchens and baths, we encourage the use of more green, low-carbon products. “In summary, we encourage replacing consumer products with smart, green, low-carbon options, while respecting consumer preferences.”
