On the morning of April 1, at the underground workshop operation site of the National Energy Group Qinghai Mardang Hydropower Station, after various inspections and defect elimination work, the first No. 5 unit of the power station successfully achieved grid-connected power generation. This marks a key step towards full commissioning of the core project of the first 10 million-kilowatt "aquatic, wind and light storage" multi-energy complementary clean energy integrated project in the Qinghai section of the upper Yellow River.

Maerzhang Hydropower Station is located on the main stream of the Yellow River about 5 kilometers upstream of Lajia Town, Maqin County, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with an average elevation of 3300 meters and a total installed capacity of 2.32 million kilowatts. It is not only the highest and largest hydropower station under construction in the Yellow River basin, but also the backbone power source for the national implementation of "power transmission from west to east" and "green power into Henan", as well as key energy projects in the country and Qinghai Province. A total of four hydrogenerator sets with a single unit capacity of 550 MW and one hydrogenerator set with a capacity of 120 MW are installed in the power station. The workshop of the unit is the highest and largest under construction in China. The matching 750 kV EHV substation, Mar Spruce Substation, is also the highest EHV substation in China, which is independently developed, constructed, operated and managed by the State Energy Group. All the units of the project will be put into operation in December 2024. On the same day, at the meeting of the first unit of Maerzhang Hydropower Station of the State Energy Group and the mobilization meeting for the start of major projects in Qinghai, Liu Guoyue, secretary of the party group and chairman of the State Energy Group, also announced the official start of the second batch of national large base Dachaidan 1 million kilowatt scenery storage project and the 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic photothermal project of the first section of Qinghai-Henan DC Phase II. The second batch of national large base Dachaidan 1 million kilowatt scenery storage project is located in Xitieshan Town, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. it is a large-scale scenery base project, including 700000 kilowatt photovoltaic and 300000 kilowatt wind power projects. The 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic photothermal construction project of the national energy consortium of Qinghai-Henan DC Phase 1 is located in the south of Hainan Ecological Solar Power Park in Qinghai Province. The technical route of molten salt tower is adopted, and the total lighting area of the mirror field is about 700200 square meters. after the project is completed, it will be absorbed through the transmission channel of Qinghai-Henan ±800kV UHVDC project. It is understood that Maerzhang Hydropower Station is located in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with an average elevation of 3300 meters, and its oxygen content is only 60% of that in the plain area. It is a typical cold and high altitude area. In order to ensure that the first unit is put into operation on schedule, the construction of Mazhang Hydropower Station is uninterrupted 24 hours a day to promote the construction of the power station project. It has created the excellent achievements of "installing all the spiral case and the following embedded parts of the seat ring of 5 units 40 days ahead of schedule,"the construction speed of extruded sidewall is the leading level of similar projects in the world,"the pouring quality of rock anchor beam reaches the first-class level in China", and "the installation of tailrace elbow pipe of No. 5 unit has set a new record for high altitude construction period". According to reports, the dam of Mazhang Hydropower Station is built by the third Hydropower Bureau, the mechanical and electrical installation by the Seventh Hydropower Bureau, and the tunnel excavation (powerhouse) by Gezhouba Group. After the whole unit of the project is put into operation, it is estimated that the average annual power generation will reach 7.304 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the electricity demand of 1.825 million households with an annual electricity consumption of 4000 kilowatt-hours, save about 2.2 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 8.16 million tons. Reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by about 30400 tons. In the future, the National Energy Group will rely on Mar'erzhang Hydropower Station, give full play to the advantages of surrounding new energy resources, integrate hydropower, wind energy and light energy into one, and allocate 31.12 million kilowatts of renewable energy through the complementary development of various energy. we will make every effort to create a 10 million kilowatt clean energy integration base of Mar'erzhang "water scenery storage" class. The base has been listed in the energy development plan of Qinghai Province during the 14th five-year Plan, and is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of the 15th five-year Plan. It is of great significance for Qinghai Province to build a clean energy industry highland, to build a national green, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system, and to implement the strategy of western development in the new era.
