Electricity consumption is regarded as one of the "barometers" of economic operation. According to the latest data released by the National Energy Administration, in the first three quarters of this year, the total electricity consumption of the whole society reached 7,419.2 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year.

Traditional industries are undergoing transformation and upgrading, emerging industries are thriving, new productive forces are forming rapidly, and multiple electricity indicators reflect new economic dynamics and trends. Data shows that from January to the current month, the total electricity consumption of the whole society reached 100 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 10.0% year-on-year. Among them, electricity consumption in the primary industry was 100 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.0%; in the secondary industry, it was 100 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.0%; in the tertiary industry, it was 100 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.0%; and in urban and rural residential life, it was 100 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.0%.

From an industrial perspective, in the first three quarters, the electricity consumption of the secondary industry grew faster than the previous year, contributing .% to the overall growth in electricity consumption. Among this, the electricity consumption of high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries increased by .%, exceeding the average growth rate of the manufacturing sector by . percentage points, indicating a continued trend of transformation and upgrading in the manufacturing industry. The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry also maintained a rapid growth momentum, with high-speed growth in electricity consumption for internet services and charging/swapping services. The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry increased by .%, .%, and .% year-on-year in the first, second, and third quarters respectively, each quarter showing rapid growth.

From a provincial perspective, in the first three quarters, Guangdong Province maintained its position as the top consumer of electricity in Mainland China, with a growth rate of %. In the same period, Zhejiang Province saw a year-on-year increase of % in total electricity consumption. Among the 31 manufacturing industries, 25 experienced positive growth in electricity consumption. The electricity consumption in high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries grew by %, while the traditional four energy-intensive industries only saw a growth rate of %.

With the recovery of the global electronics market and the booming artificial intelligence industry, the electricity consumption of the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing sectors in the five provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan in southern China has seen a year-on-year increase. The demand in the electrical industry market continues to be released, with household appliances accelerating their brand expansion overseas, driving the continuous increase in electricity consumption of the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing sector. The driving effect of large-scale equipment renewal policies continues to be evident, also driving the steady growth in electricity consumption of the general equipment manufacturing, instrument and meter manufacturing, and special equipment manufacturing sectors. The enhancement of production capacity in industries related to the "new three types" has also driven rapid growth in electricity consumption.
