Xinhua News Agency: Towards New, Towards Green, Open Cooperation - Observations from the Third "Belt and Road" Energy Ministers' Meeting
From the Third "Belt and Road" Energy Ministerial Conference held recently in Qingdao, Shandong Province, reporters learned that China adheres to an energy revolution driven by technological innovation and guided by green and low-carbon development, expanding open cooperation, and has forged an energy transition path that aligns with its national conditions and contributes globally.
Director Zhang Jianhua of the National Energy Administration stated that China adheres to green and low-carbon development, promoting a greener energy transition; and persists in technological innovation, achieving a more innovative energy development.
Ni Zhen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China Energy Construction Group, introduced that China Energy Construction has continuously invested in research and development in areas such as new energy, energy storage, hydrogen energy, and smart grids. It has completed a series of innovative projects with independent intellectual property rights in fields such as megawatt-level compressed air energy storage, gravity energy storage, green hydrogen ammonia methanol integration, high-altitude wind energy, and tower-type solar thermal energy.
"New technological innovations are a crucial engine driving energy security. In the face of increasingly severe climate change and resource constraints, the application of new technologies is particularly critical," said Ni Zhen.
Wang Zhong, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Fujian Province, introduced that Fujian has long been accelerating technological innovation, enhancing energy security capabilities, focusing on areas such as offshore wind power, solid-state batteries, and chemical energy storage, actively encouraging leading enterprises to collaborate with major universities and research institutes, and organizing "unveiling and taking the lead" initiatives. Additionally, the province continues to enrich application scenarios, has formulated the "Electric Fujian" plan, and promotes the high-quality development of energy storage and new energy.
According to data from the National Energy Administration, in the year, China's energy transition investment reached $100 billion, making it a major global investor in energy transition. By the end of the year, the installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power generation in China had increased by several times compared to a decade ago, and the installed capacity of clean energy accounted for .% of the total installed capacity. The proportion of clean energy consumption in the total energy consumption increased from .% to .%.
Additionally, our country has engaged in green energy project cooperation with multiple countries and regions, with a series of landmark projects such as nuclear power, hydropower, and new energy sources being successively completed and put into operation.
According to Zhang Jianhua, over the past decade, China has driven the average cost per kilowatt-hour of global wind and photovoltaic power projects to decline by more than % and % respectively. China's wind and photovoltaic products are available in many countries and regions around the world. At the same time, a large number of landmark and "small but beautiful" projects have been completed and put into operation, bringing tangible benefits to the local people.
The theme of this year's "Belt and Road" Energy Ministerial Conference is "Embracing the New and Achieving Win-Win Cooperation." Energy ministers from participating countries, ambassadors to China, and heads of major domestic energy enterprises and financial institutions gathered together to engage in in-depth discussions on topics such as energy transition and energy security, new energy storage technologies, and advanced nuclear power technologies.
