——Taking Zhejiang Vocational College of Post and Telecommunications as an example

Ma Xiaojie

【Abstract】Military values are a great achievement since the establishment of our army, embodying the revolutionary spirit of our military. In teaching military theory, vocational college instructors should solidify college students' recognition of military values through ideological and political education cases, social practice, and other means. Based on existing research, this paper conducts empirical research on students from Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Polytechnic through literature research, questionnaire surveys, and in-depth interviews, examining the basic status of vocational students' recognition of military values from the perspectives of cognition, emotion, and behavior. The findings reveal that vocational college students have a moderately high level of recognition of military values, with a relatively profound understanding. Therefore, in military education, instructors should integrate military values as ideological and political education cases into both explicit and implicit education, making the education of military values the fundamental foothold for collaborative construction, and promoting college students' recognition of military values.

I. The Origin of the Issue

We are in the midst of a great transformation unseen in a century, where "danger" and "opportunity" coexist. The international strategic landscape, competition in comprehensive national power, the global geopolitical chessboard, and the governance system are undergoing significant changes. Our country has never been closer to the center of the world stage, yet the security and development situation we face has become more complex, presenting numerous new challenges in maintaining the strategic opportunity period for our rapid development. Under the impetus of information technology, the form of warfare continues to evolve rapidly in the direction of informatization, with weapons and equipment advancing at an unprecedented pace, constantly demanding new requirements for war guidance and operational theories.

Military Theory is a public compulsory course for college students and also the main channel for patriotic education. How to highlight the effectiveness of military theory teaching and adapt it to national defense construction is an urgent issue in military theory education. As an important part of ideological and political education in courses, integrating military values into military theory classes as case studies can jointly promote the realization of patriotic education goals. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the personal qualities and skills of military theory teachers, establish an information feedback mechanism for military theory teaching, focus on the diversity of the teaching process, and evaluate college students from multiple perspectives, in order to provide references for the future development of military theory teaching. Learning military theory is a basic requirement of China's new era military strategy, a guarantee for the implementation of the civil-military integration development strategy, and an important foundation for achieving the goal of a strong military. It is conducive to enhancing college students' military literacy, comprehensive quality, and national defense awareness, and promoting the construction and development of reserve forces for national defense.

II. Analysis of College Students' Perception of Military Theory Courses

Our Party has led the Chinese revolution to significant victories through continuous exploration and practice. During this period, our Party creatively guided and developed our military's national defense and army construction, forming military achievements that align with contemporary China's development, guiding our people's army to stride forward continuously. Military theory courses, as both instructional and moral education activities, are a dialectical unity of education and instruction. They are the foundational project for achieving national talent cultivation goals, a form of patriotic education in the new era, and theoretical outcomes intertwined with "the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" and "building a community with a shared future for mankind." While the educational nature of military theory courses continues to be strengthened and highlighted, the following issues still exist in their daily teaching.

Research found that % of students have a profound understanding of military theory construction content, accounting for just over half, and many students have insufficient in-depth understanding of military theory. At the same time, only .% of students have a positive evaluation of military theory practice, and .% of students are highly satisfied with military courses, but % of students believe that national defense education is extremely important. The issues in military theory courses are manifested in the lack of distinctiveness in teaching methods, excessive or insufficient play of the leading role of military theory teachers during lectures, and the need for better integration of ideological and political cases with the textbook. The reasons for these issues are the relatively backward teaching methods in military theory courses and the need for improvement in the teaching training and seminars for military theory teachers. Therefore, how to highlight the effectiveness of military theory teaching and align it with national defense construction is an urgent issue to be addressed in military theory teaching.

Through interviews, it was found that military theory courses face challenges such as a shortage of faculty structure and insufficient teaching resources, leading to poor educational outcomes, and inadequate guidance in the integration of ideological and political education into the curriculum. A student majoring in communication technology reflected, "Most of the military theory teachers are also counselors, and it seems they don't know much about the subject, often just reading from the material." Some teachers do not give enough importance to military theory teaching, treating it as a task from higher authorities, which hinders the effective implementation of military theory courses. There is also an issue of unchanging teaching content, where theoretical knowledge from textbooks cannot be effectively linked to current national defense hotspots and military cases. Teachers struggle to convince students with abstract theoretical explanations, resulting in a serious disconnect between theory and the current state of national defense, failing to reflect the timeliness of military theory courses. By integrating ideological and political cases such as military values into the classroom, it is essential to promote the unity of educational and instructional aspects of military theory education, as well as the effective conversion between research and application in teaching. Efforts should also be made to enhance the teaching quality of military theory instructors.

III. Analysis of Current Situation of College Students' Recognition of Military Values

The overall situation of college students' recognition of military values is good, mainly reflected in the following aspects.

Loyalty to the Party: "Loyalty to the Party" is a profound advancement in the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party in the new era, reflecting the historical continuation of the fine tradition of obeying the Party's command. It scientifically answers the purpose of our military construction and is also the fundamental requirement for the vast majority of Party members. "Obeying the Party's command" is fully endorsed by 100% of respondents, with only one person expressing disagreement. Although the number of Party members among the survey participants is relatively small, their understanding of Party spirit remains high. A student majoring in information security responded, "Although I am not a Party member, I never miss political studies and actively participate in the Youth Great Classroom." Most college students have correct political positions, steadfastly upholding the political character of Communists based on a scientific understanding of the Chinese Communist Party's century-long journey and practices.

On the aspect of loving the people; Mao Zedong continuously emphasized the importance of the masses in his works, our revolutionary achievements are inseparable from the broad masses of the people, and the people hold a pivotal position in the construction of the army. "Serve the people wholeheartedly" is fully agreed by .% of the respondents, with one person disagreeing. Students from the Electric Communication Institute responded, "Our party comes from the people, and Deng Xiaoping also said he was the son of the people. Over the years, the purpose of our party to serve the people wholeheartedly has never changed, and we often help the masses in need." The data analysis results show that college students have well inherited the fine tradition of taking the people as the purpose and effectively integrated it into all aspects of daily life and study.

In terms of serving the nation: "Contribute to the construction of a prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious, and beautiful socialist modernized country" is fully agreed by .%. A college student majoring in artificial intelligence said, "Serving the nation is a great and proud endeavor. As a college student, it is our duty not to disappoint the expectations of the nation and society. We should diligently contribute to the development of our motherland in our respective roles, realizing our patriotic sentiments through small but meaningful acts." In the modern history of China, many virtuous individuals laid down their pens to take up arms for the new China, serving the nation. This is something that we young people should learn from.

In terms of dedicating oneself to the mission: "Dedicating oneself to the mission" is the highest honor for soldiers to practice loyalty and dedication, and sacrificing for the country is a noble sentiment. The percentage of people who fully agree with the statement "Soldiers should fulfill the historical mission of the army entrusted by the Party and the people" is %. A student from the School of Economics and Management said, "Dedicating oneself to the mission is a heavy yet meaningful topic for us college students, and I always believe that sacrificing for the nation and the ethnic group is worthwhile."

In the aspect of honoring honor: Among the items set for "honoring honor," those who completely agree with the statement "should forget their family when entrusted with a mission, and forget their relatives when facing military discipline" account for .%, with one person expressing disagreement. A female student from the Digital Media department believes: "The teacher often tells stories of soldiers, which have greatly inspired me. I think honor is a source of pride, constantly motivating us to strive, like a star in the darkness."

IV. Implementation Pathways for Integrating Military Values into Higher Vocational Military Theory Education

Military values incorporate Xi Jinping's basic positions, viewpoints, and methods on Marxism, serving as one of the important resources for teachers to cultivate "ideological and political education through courses." In the teaching of military theory, deepening research on military values among teachers is crucial to enhance the effectiveness of military theory education. Theoretical forms have their own "value" underpinnings, and thoughts contain the "value" core. In military theory education, integrating discussions on military values, a significant issue in national defense and military construction, is essential to firmly establish Xi Jinping's thought on strengthening the military as the guiding principle in military theory education. By utilizing multimedia, the internet, micro-lectures, and other new technologies, the core essence of military values should be conveyed. Additionally, teachers should guide students in deeply understanding the important thoughts, strategies, and measures embedded in military values, continuously strengthening college students' political, ideological, and emotional identification with China's national defense and military construction.

To deepen the understanding and recognition of military values, promote the vertical development of teachers' understanding of textbook content in military theory teaching, and enhance the application capabilities of military theory teaching. Behind the theoretical form lies its own "value" foundation, and within the thoughts is the "value" core. Military theory teaching should absorb the Marxist stance, viewpoints, and methods, and should contain "curriculum ideological and political education" resources in the teaching process. Under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping's thought on strengthening the military, our military's efforts to strengthen the army have achieved historic accomplishments. The organizational form, political discipline, struggle pattern, and construction layout of the People's Army have undergone significant changes.
