On the day, Guangzhou University's official Weibo account released a statement on the situation:

Recently, there have been reports on the internet regarding issues such as expired food storage in the canteen at our Huangpu campus. Our university has taken the matter very seriously and immediately established a task force to conduct an investigation and response. The preliminary findings are as follows:

The canteen at the Huangpu campus is an outsourced facility managed by the school. In response to online concerns, the school's relevant departments have conducted a thorough investigation of each issue. Preliminary checks have confirmed the existence of expired ingredients on the day, inadequate disposal of expired items, and irregularities in record-keeping. Further in-depth investigations are ongoing. The school is committed to addressing issues as they are identified and has already issued a rectification notice to the contractor, demanding immediate corrective actions. Additionally, the school will hold the responsible units and individuals accountable for the issues.

Food safety issues are directly related to the life and health of teachers and students. The school has always maintained a zero-tolerance attitude towards food safety in the canteen. The school sincerely accepts the management of regulatory authorities and the supervision of all sectors of society, fully implements the requirements of campus food safety laws and regulations, further improves the school's food safety risk prevention and control system, strengthens comprehensive supervision over the daily operations of contractors, increases the frequency of spot checks, further perfects the communication and feedback mechanism, and effectively ensures food safety.
