据东森新闻云等台媒11月5日报道,台陆军第六军团指挥部所属109旅营区11月4日传出枪响:A conscripted new recruit secretly took ammunition during a camp test, fired a rifle in the bathroom, and "the loud noise startled all the officers and soldiers."

According to reports, in the morning, after completing the target practice course, the new recruit privately took away ammunition and went to the restroom to load bullets into the rifle, where it is suspected that he accidentally triggered the firing mechanism. The report states that the stolen bullets were blank rounds, resulting in no injuries, and the soldier was subsequently taken away for investigation.

Regarding this matter, the head of the Taiwan defense department, Koo Kwang-ming, responded that the Taiwanese military is currently undergoing a practical combat-oriented transformation, and it is appropriate to issue rifles to soldiers. The new recruit who fired the shot carrying the firearm with him is not an issue. Koo also stated that enhancing personnel training, as well as increasing awareness of laws, regulations, and military discipline related to shooting safety, and ensuring that risk control is minimized, are efforts that the defense department must strive to achieve.

China Times News cited the views of informed sources, stating that the number of bullets used in target practice is always accounted for after the exercise, so how could anyone take bullets away from the shooting range? Additionally, there are procedures for maintaining firearms, and Taiwanese military officers on site did not notice any soldiers taking rifles away. What is going on with the Taiwanese military? Is this incident an exceptional case, or has the Taiwanese military loosened its vigilance?

Additionally, EBC News Cloud reported that accidental incidents involving firearms in the Taiwanese military are not unprecedented. At the end of the month, a soldier in the Taiwanese Navy's Zuoying Base in Kaohsiung City was involved in a self-inflicted gunshot wound that resulted in death. This time, the new recruit violated military regulations by secretly stealing ammunition to shoot in the bathroom, bringing the issue of military safety back to the forefront.
