Jiangsu Time-honored Brands Shine with Innovative Cultural Heritage Cards Strolling through the Jiangsu Cultural Exchange Pavilion, it feels like stepping into a time tunnel where traditional culture blends seamlessly with modern technology. The melodious tunes of Kunqu Opera fill the air, and as you pass through the oversized semicircular screen and mirrored floor that form the "Moon Gate" of a classical garden, the ink-colored waters of Jiangnan unfold like a scroll before your eyes, reflecting the poetic and romantic essence of Jiangsu's time-honored brands.
In the Jiangsu Cultural Exchange Exhibition Area, visitors can not only witness非遗传承人 performing the konghou, demonstrating the art of Biluochun tea making, and creating jianpu, but also directly experience the innovative expressions that digital and holographic imaging technologies bring to traditional beauty. "For this CIIE, we have brought together our old and renowned enterprises and technology companies to showcase together, aiming to better present Jiangsu's traditional culture and cutting-edge technology products to the world under the theme of 'The Beauty of Jiangsu, as Grand as Its Rivers and Landscapes,'" said a relevant person in charge of the Jiangsu Cultural Exchange Exhibition Area.
At the Jiangsu Cultural Exchange Exhibition, the most eye-catching exhibits were undoubtedly the exquisite intangible cultural heritage items showcased by the Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute. "This commemorative 'Dragon and Phoenix Auspicious Skirt' for the anniversary of the UNESCO listing of Nanjing Yunjin has boldly innovated through technology on the foundation of inheriting the intangible cultural heritage skills. We used cloud brocade software for design, significantly shortening the process time and reducing labor costs. Additionally, in terms of materials, we incorporated modern fiber materials into the original silk and gold thread of the cloud brocade, enhancing the drape and making it easier to care for, more suitable for modern daily wear," explained He Guanyi, Brand Center Director of the Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute, to the reporter.
The reporter observed that on the front panel of the "Dragon and Phoenix Auspicious Horse-Face Skirt," a five-clawed golden dragon coils around a rock, its eyes bright and its presence extraordinary; when the skirt is spread out, phoenixes on both sides dance to welcome the dragon, gracefully and vividly, showcasing the perfect fusion of intangible cultural heritage and technology. "We hope to achieve this through adhering to tradition while innovating, making the intangible cultural heritage of Yunjin no longer just museum exhibits, but cultural name cards that can be worn," said He Guanyi.
The central exhibits also include the artworks "Dragon's Roar, Auspicious Offering" and "Everlasting Prosperity" from the Yunjin Museum's "Yunjin National Essence Treasure Series." Both of these pieces are second-creation designs based on patterns extracted from Yunjin dragon robe relics. He Guanyi introduced that these are the results of the museum's post-designers deeply understanding the connotations behind the patterns and then reinterpreting the traditional patterns, making Yunjin art both traditional and modern in aesthetics. "This 'Dragon's Roar, Auspicious Offering' is woven with special peacock feather thread, fully showcasing the three-dimensional, colorful, and gem-like brilliance of peacock feather thread; 'Everlasting Prosperity' is woven with Yunjin's characteristic gold thread, truly a golden dragon of Yunjin. It is worth noting that this is also the legendary version of 'Golden Python Inviting Wealth,' which was collected by the French First Lady during the Nanjing Week in Paris, France this year, making it of great significance," said He Guanyi. "We hope to use the CIIE as an international platform to spread the excellent traditional culture of China."
