Israel Defense Forces daily report states that a soldier from the Golani Infantry Brigade, an elite unit of the Israeli military, was killed during an ambush in a village in southern Lebanon, while engaging in firefight with Hezbollah militants.

The soldiers are all from the Golani Brigade battalion. According to Israel's "New News" TV station, the Israeli army division to which the brigade belongs is conducting a sweep operation along the southern border of Lebanon. The attacked unit entered the village on the night of the incident. Around 10 a.m. on the morning of the incident, Israeli soldiers entered a building where Hezbollah militants had been lying in wait and opened fire at close range.

The Israeli military suspects that the Hezbollah fighters had previously hidden in a concealed tunnel, thus evading earlier Israeli airstrikes in the area. Intense close-quarters combat ensued between the Israeli forces and the Hezbollah ambushers, with the situation only being brought under control by the Israeli military after several hours of fighting.

According to Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, the Israeli military killed all Hezbollah ambushers. At least one Israeli soldier was injured in the firefight. The Times of Israel referred to the day as the second-most deadly for Israeli military personnel since the beginning of the ground offensive in southern Lebanon earlier this month. The Israeli military lost 11 soldiers in two battles on the day.

Golani Brigade, known as the "First Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces," played a key role in the "Iron Sword" operation against the Gaza Strip during the recent Israel-Palestine conflict. Suffering heavy losses in northern Gaza, the brigade had to return to Israel for rest and recuperation. After targeted training, the unit joined the "Northern Arrow" military operation against Lebanon, which is under the command of the Israel Defense Forces' Northern Command.

Including the soldiers whose deaths are counted as daily fatalities, according to the figures released by the Israeli government, approximately people have died in ground operations within Lebanon over the past one and a half months, and others have died in the north of Israel due to airstrikes from Hezbollah drones and other aerial attacks.

Israeli media reports that several Israeli army brigades had a brief rest in the early part of this month, with some reserve units partially withdrawn. However, in recent days, the Israeli government has decided to expand the war, with Israeli forces advancing deep into southern Lebanon, pushing towards Hezbollah's second line of defense. Israeli officials expressed cautious optimism about reaching a ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese government, while claiming that they would not stop targeting Hezbollah.

An Israeli military analyst stated that as the Israeli army advances deeper into southern Lebanon, Hezbollah's resistance intensifies. The latter observes the Israeli army's tactics and tracks their movements through public statements, using village terrain to set up fortifications and ambush positions. The Israeli army has suffered significant losses but has significantly weakened Hezbollah's ability to launch short-range rockets into Israel.

Since the outbreak of the current Israel-Palestine conflict last year, Hezbollah and the Israeli military have continued to exchange fire along the Israel-Lebanon border, in support of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) fighting against the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip. In late April this year, the Israeli military launched large-scale airstrikes on Lebanon, targeting and eliminating senior Hezbollah members, followed by ground offensives. Hezbollah continued to attack Israel with rockets, missiles, and drones. The Israeli government's goal of allowing approximately 10,000 residents evacuated from the northern border to return home remains far from being realized.
