Xi Jinping meets with New Zealand Prime Minister Laxson
On the afternoon of the month, local time, President Xi Jinping met with New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins during his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima.
Xi Jinping pointed out that during my visit to New Zealand a year ago, we decided to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand. Over the years, the relationship between China and New Zealand has maintained a healthy and stable development momentum, significantly enhancing the well-being of both peoples, which is worth treasuring all the more. Both China and New Zealand are important members of the Asia-Pacific region, with strong economic complementarity and mutual benefit. There are no historical grievances or fundamental conflicts of interest between the two countries. They should regard each other as opportunities and partners, rather than challenges or threats. They should manage differences calmly and pragmatically, rather than allowing differences to define their relationship. China is willing to work with New Zealand to continue the spirit of "striving for the forefront," jointly building a China-New Zealand relationship characterized by mutual respect, mutual inclusiveness, focusing on cooperation, and common development, to support the development of their respective countries.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China supports exchanges between the local, youth, media, scholars, and other sectors of the two countries through various means to solidify the friendly foundation between the peoples of the two countries. China has included New Zealand in its visa-exempt range, and welcomes more New Zealand friends to work and travel in China. China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with New Zealand within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, and the World Trade Organization, to jointly maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.
Lacson stated that China is a great nation. Since the successful visit of President Xi Jinping at the beginning of the year, the relations between the two countries have developed very well, and the bonds between the peoples of the two countries are very strong. The New Zealand side is committed to continuously deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between New Zealand and China, firmly adheres to the One-China policy, and looks forward to maintaining high-level exchanges with China, comprehensively deepening exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as trade, green development, and climate change response. The New Zealand side expects to strengthen communication and collaboration with China within multilateral mechanisms such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, jointly safeguarding the freedom and openness of regional trade, and promoting the prosperity and development of the region.
Cai Qi, Wang Yi and others attended the meeting.
