The "Discovery-1" scientific research ship returned to Sanya, and the first joint scientific expedition between China and Indonesia was successfully completed.

On the afternoon of March 28, the "Exploration 1" scientific research ship returned to Sanya with the "Struggle" all-sea deep manned submersible, successfully completing the first China-Indonesia Java Trench joint deep diving expedition mission. The abyss scientific research team set sail from Sanya on February 8 for 50 days. The participants came from 11 units including Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency, Indonesian Haruoleo University, Indonesia Hengdu University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Hainan Tropical Ocean Institute.

This voyage is jointly supported by the key special project of "Deep Sea and Polar Key Technologies and Equipment" of the "14th Five-Year Plan" National Key R & D Plan, the "Global Abyss Deep Diving Exploration Plan" project of the International Partnership Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Deep Sea Technology Innovation Center of Hainan Province Co-supported by the Deep Sea Exploration and Equipment Sea Trial Shared Voyage "project, and led the organization and implementation of the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is the first large-scale and systematic manned deep diving scientific expedition in the Java Gully in the world.

The "Struggle" all-sea deep manned submersible completed 22 submersible missions in the Java Gulch, 14 of which dived to a water depth of more than 6000 meters, and 6 submersible missions were carried out by scientific expedition team members from China and Indonesia. Completed together. The joint chief scientist of China and Indonesia jointly completed the 7,180.4-meter dive mission at the deepest point of the Java Trench, setting a new record for deep sea diving in Indonesia. The voyage obtained a number of valuable samples of macrobenthos, rocks and sediments, as well as high-definition videos and photos. A total of more than 200 macrobenthos were collected, including many new abyssal species.

This joint deep-diving scientific expedition in the Java Gully opens a new chapter for China and Indonesia to strengthen maritime cooperation. At the same time, as an important part of the "Global Abyss Deep Diving Exploration Plan" initiated by the Deep Sea Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it will further deepen Understanding the global abyss geological life process and the evolution of the earth system is of great significance to promoting the high-quality development of China's joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
