Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Urges the United States to Immediately Correct Its Mistakes
Today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun presided over the regular press conference. Regarding the U.S. State Department's revision of the "Fact Sheet on U.S.-Taiwan Relations," Guo Jiakun stated that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This is a universal consensus in the international community and a fundamental norm of international relations, as well as a solemn commitment made by the U.S. side in the three U.S.-China joint communiqués. History cannot be altered, and facts cannot be denied.
The U.S. Department of State has revised the "Fact Sheet on U.S.-Taiwan Relations," marking a significant regression in its stance on Taiwan-related issues. This move severely violates the One-China principle and the three U.S.-China joint communiqués, contravenes international law and the fundamental norms of international relations, and sends a gravely erroneous signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. This is yet another example of the U.S. obstinately adhering to the erroneous policy of "using Taiwan to contain China."
We urge the United States to immediately correct its mistakes, strictly adhere to the One-China principle and the three U.S.-China joint communiqués, handle the Taiwan issue with utmost caution, cease using Taiwan to contain China, halt the upgrading of substantive relations with Taiwan, stop assisting Taiwan in expanding its international space, cease supporting "Taiwan independence," and avoid causing further serious damage to U.S.-China relations and the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
