The second "Hualong-1" nuclear power unit in the western region is connected to the grid for power generation.

At 20:29 on April 9, CGNPC's No. 4 Unit of Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station was successfully connected to the grid for the first time, marking that the unit has power generation capacity and a key step towards commercial and transportation goals. During the grid connection process, all parameters of the unit were normal and stable, and the unit was in good condition. A series of tests will be carried out as planned in the future to further verify that the unit meets various performances under commercial operating conditions. It is expected to be put into operation in the first half of this year.

It is reported that as the first nuclear power plant in western China and ethnic minority areas, two units of the first phase of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station project have been put into commercial operation in 2016; Units 3 and 4 of the second phase of the project are the "Hualong-1" demonstration projects. Among them, Unit 3 of the first "Hualong-1" in the western region-Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station was put into operation for power generation on March 25, 2023. The first cycle is safe and reliable. Operation, the 2023 annual capacity factor reaches 98.2%, setting a record for the best domestic third-generation reactor.

Data shows that the cumulative on-grid electricity of the three operating units of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station has exceeded 120 billion kilowatt-hours. Compared with coal-fired power stations of the same size, the equivalent reduction in standard coal consumption by more than 36.24 million tons and emission reduction of carbon dioxide by about 98.88 million tons, equivalent to 270,000 hectares of forest were planted.
