A strong storm hit eastern Argentina, leaving nearly 70,000 customers without power.

On March 20, local time, Argentina's National Meteorological Service issued a red warning for extreme storm weather and an orange warning for strong winds for the Buenos Aires metropolitan area and surrounding areas in the eastern part of the country. In addition to experiencing heavy rainfall and lightning, the above-mentioned areas were also accompanied by hail and strong gusts, with winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour.

The provincial government of Buenos Aires said 700 people had been evacuated due to heavy rains that caused waterlogging and house damage in some areas. Some subway lines in Buenos Aires were delayed due to the storm. Due to heavy rain and strong winds, the power plant suffered multiple failures, causing power to nearly 70,000 customers.

Affected by the storm, Buenos Aires's two major airports entered a red alert state and temporarily suspended operations. Dozens of flights were still cancelled or delayed after operations resumed.

A spokesman for the Argentine Presidential Palace said that all government resources will be mobilized to ensure and meet the rescue needs of the disaster-stricken areas.
