On March 30, the 2024 (15th) Steel High-Quality Development Conference was held in Beijing. In his speech, Xia Nong analyzed the current development environment facing the steel industry, and made suggestions on promoting high-quality development of the steel industry from the perspective of deepening supply-side structural reforms, expanding domestic demand and domestic and international dual circulation.

Xia Nong introduced that since 2023, the steel industry has overcome many difficulties and challenges. Steel companies have continued to adapt to the market, actively meet demand, adjust variety structures, and strengthen benchmarking and tapping potential. The overall production and operation have maintained a stable trend, contributing to the continued recovery of the national economy and the realization of industry. Stable growth has made important contributions. He analyzed that from the perspective of production, China's steel output remains high and the variety structure continues to be optimized; from the perspective of steel consumption, China's apparent steel consumption has declined; from the perspective of production raw materials, the development of iron resources still needs to be strengthened; from the perspective of global steel, steel production has remained stable.
