Today (29th) is the first day of a public holiday in Hong Kong. Many Hong Kong citizens choose to travel and visit relatives in the mainland. People "northbound" have emerged at many ports.

A large number of tourists taking the high-speed rail to travel to the mainland today appeared at Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station. Some people in the tourism industry said that due to the long duration of the holiday, many tourists choose to follow groups and take high-speed rail to travel to different provinces and cities in the mainland. Among them, travel routes to Guilin and Chaoshan are more popular.

As of 4pm today, close to 630,000 people have left Hong Kong via various checkpoints, with Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge being the busiest. According to the forecast of the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the peak period for land crossings is expected to be on April 1, when about 589,000 people will enter the city.

In order to avoid excessive waiting time for passengers to pass through the immigration control point at the boundary crossing points, the Immigration Department appeals to all travellers to and from the Mainland via land boundary control points to plan their itineraries in advance and as far as possible avoid the peak hours for crossing the boundary, and to watch out for any available radio or television broadcasts on traffic conditions at the various boundary control points.

Friends who plan to travel to and from the mainland and Hong Kong during this period can download the "Hong Kong Immigration Department" app from major app malls and check the entry and exit traffic at each port on the page. The Immigration Department urges passengers to bring their identity documents and valid travel documents for the mainland when crossing customs for the mainland. Hong Kong residents should check the validity date of their home visit cards before going out, while Hong Kong non-permanent residents need to bring the equally valid smart ID card and visa identity document or travel document to pass customs.
