Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee today (10th) expressed his deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries of multiple people in the two-alarm fire that broke out at the Hua Fung Building on Jordan Road, and extended his deepest condolences to the victims' families and the injured.

Chief Executive John Lee said the SAR government attached great importance to the incident, and had instructed the Hospital Authority to do its utmost to treat the injured while the police and the Fire Services Department and other relevant departments investigated the cause of the fire and the serious casualties. He has also instructed the Home Affairs Department, the Social Welfare Department and other departments to complete the follow-up work and provide all necessary assistance to the victims' families and residents affected by the fire.

It is reported that affected by the fire, about 150 people were evacuated to safe places. The Hospital Authority said that as of 11:30 a.m., 40 people had been taken to public hospitals, with five deaths.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Chen Kwok-kee, said that the Hong Kong Police and Fire Services Department will conduct an in-depth investigation into the cause of the fire at Wah Fung Building on Jordan Road.
