Hualien 7.3-magnitude earthquake tsunami warning red warning
China Earthquake Networks Center officially determined:On April 3, at 07:58 a.m., a 7.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters of Hualien County, Taiwan (23.81 degrees north latitude, 121.74 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 12 kilometers.
The epicenter of this earthquake was located in the sea, about 14 kilometers from the island of Taiwan. The earthquake caused strong tremors all over the island; Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and other regions also felt the earthquake.
According to CCTV News, schools in Taipei City were evacuated after the earthquake.
Residents reported that the earthquake was strongly felt in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Ningde and other places in Fujian.
According to Xinhua Agency, reporters felt a strong earthquake in Taipei. The houses shook for more than a minute, and the elevators in the apartment stopped working. According to media reports on the island, many people in Taiwan felt a strong earthquake, and the Taipei MRT stopped running for 40 to 60 minutes.
The Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources subsequently issued a tsunami level I warning (red). At 07:58 on April 3, 2024 (Beijing time), a magnitude 7.5 earthquake occurred in the waters of China Taiwan (23.85° N, 121.6 °E) with a focal depth of 9 kilometers. The Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources determined based on preliminary earthquake parameters that the earthquake may trigger a local tsunami around the source.
The Taiwan Meteorological Department determined that a 7.2-magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:58 on the 3rd, with a depth of 15.5 kilometers. The epicenter was located 25 kilometers south-south and east of the Hualien County Government.(Located in the eastern waters of Taiwan), the maximum earthquake magnitude was 6 in Hualien County, Yilan County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, Taoyuan City, New Taipei City, and Taipei City, and Taitung County, Chiayi County, Yunlin County, Kaohsiung City, Chiayi City, Hsinchu City, Tainan City, Keelung City, and Pingtung County were 4.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Miyako Island, Okinawa Island and other places on the 3rd, with an estimated wave height of 3 meters.
