The Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources determined based on preliminary earthquake parameters that the earthquake may trigger a local tsunami around the source.

The Taiwan Meteorological Department determined that a 7.2-magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:58 on the 3rd, with a depth of 15.5 kilometers. The epicenter was located 25 kilometers south-south and east of the Hualien County Government.(Located in the eastern waters of Taiwan), the maximum earthquake magnitude was 6 in Hualien County, Yilan County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, Taoyuan City, New Taipei City, and Taipei City, and Taitung County, Chiayi County, Yunlin County, Kaohsiung City, Chiayi City, Hsinchu City, Tainan City, Keelung City, and Pingtung County were 4.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Miyako Island, Okinawa Island and other places on the 3rd, with an estimated wave height of 3 meters.
