Zhang Lixiong, the last surviving founding general of the 25,000-mile Long March, died at the age of 111
据澎湃新闻消息,记者从相关部门获悉,General Zhang Lixiong, the founding major general and former adviser to the Fuzhou Military Region, died in Nanjing, Jiangsu on the afternoon of April 2, 2024 due to ineffective medical treatment. He was 111 years old.
According to public information, Zhang Lixiong was born on November 21, 1913 in Yanzi Tower Natural Village, Zhangyun Village, Tongxian Township, Shanghang County, Fujian Province. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1929, transferred to the Communist Party of China in 1931, and joined the Red Army of Chinese Workers and Peasants in 1932.

Only one surviving founding general remains
After the death of General Zhang Lixiong, there is only one surviving founding general, namely Wang Fuzhi, the former deputy commander of the Urumqi Military Region, who was awarded the title in 1964. General Wang was born in 1923 and is 101 years old this year.
From 1955 to 1965, China awarded or promoted a total of 10 marshals of the People's Republic of China, 10 generals of the People's Liberation Army, 57 generals of the People's Liberation Army, 177 lieutenant generals of the People's Liberation Army and 1360 major generals of the People's Liberation Army.
These people are generally collectively referred to as the "Founding Generals".
At present, among the "founding generals" group, marshals, generals, generals, and lieutenant generals have all passed away. The first batch of founding generals awarded the title in 1955 have all passed away.
