On April 2, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the 100-megawatt supportable grid-connected wind power project in Basu County, Xizang, designed and undertaken by Power Construction China. The project has an altitude of 5300 meters, setting a new record for the world's highest wind farm at a altitude of 5200 meters for the Comeizhegu Wind Farm in Xizang, which was also designed and constructed by Power Construction China.

The 100MW supportable grid-connected wind power project in Basu County, Xizang, is located in Bangda Town, Basu County. The generating units are arranged on continuous ridges. The base altitude of the project's wind turbine reaches 5190 meters, the maximum altitude of the plant area is 5200 meters, and the cabin installation location reaches 5300 meters. It is designed by the Beijing Institute of Power Construction of China and the general contract of the 10th Hydropower Bureau.

The project has an installed capacity of 100 MW and consists of 20 wind turbines with a single unit capacity of 5 MW. It is currently the highest wind power project in the world and the largest wind power project under construction in Xizang. The project also includes a 110-kilovolt booster station to provide stable and efficient wind energy.

The project is located in a plateau monsoon climate, geographically characterized by high mountains and deep valleys, and rich wind resources. After construction and commissioning, it is expected that about 236 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity can be produced every year, saving 70,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 190,000 tons. It can not only effectively supplement the energy supply of Tibet Autonomous Region, but also as green electricity, it will help alleviate the environmental protection pressure of the local power industry and play a positive role in driving the rapid development of the regional economy.

The energy structure of Tibet Autonomous Region is mainly hydropower and photovoltaic power generation. Hydropower and photovoltaic power generation have the characteristics of "abundant summer and scarce winter, abundant day and scarce night". When hydropower photovoltaic power generation is limited, wind power can complement hydropower.

In recent years, Xizang has ushered in great development of wind power. A number of wind power projects in ultra-high altitude areas undertaken by power construction, such as the Zhegu Wind Power Project in Cuomei County and the Omatinga 100-MW Wind Power Project in Nagqu Seni District, have been successfully put into operation, providing strong support for the research and application of ultra-high altitude and low-temperature freeze-resistant wind turbines in plateau areas.
