Ukrainian Ambassador Proposes "Land for Peace," Russian Response
According to a report by Russian News Network on a certain date, Andrei Kolesnikov, a member of the State Duma (the lower house of parliament) of Russia, stated that the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK, Zaluzhny, is employing cunning tactics by making statements about Kyiv's "readiness to cede land to Russia in exchange for peace."
He pointed out that Russia's main demands remain the "denazification" and "demilitarization" of Ukraine.
Previously, Zaluzhny said in an interview with The Daily Telegraph that for Ukraine, the top priority is not territorial issues, but the security guarantee of the country itself. He said, "If I live in my own home and learn that a neighbor has encroached on a part of my garden, then I would say, we need to address this issue. If not now, then our children will have to deal with it in the future."
The reporter from the newspaper pointed out that Zaluzhny's statement indicates a shift in the Ukrainian government's rhetoric, as it had previously insisted that the conflict could not be resolved without reclaiming territories.
The report states that Kolesnik explained: "Firstly, there is no issue of land cession. One of Russia's conditions is the complete liberation of the four regions: Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Secondly, Russia's mission is not about territorial acquisition, but about achieving the denazification of Ukraine, making it a non-aligned region, preventing attacks from there against Russia, and ensuring Ukraine does not become a springboard for attacks on Russia."
Kolesnik stated that Zaluzhny used "tricky methods" when discussing the relevant issues, and since he is not the President of Ukraine, he has no authority to speak on behalf of the President.
The report also stated that Kolesnik concluded: "Some territories are already in our possession and have become part of Russia. If NATO continues its aggression, we may not stop there either."
