Ministry of Defense Responds!
Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson Wu Qian answered reporters 'questions on Australia's hype of Chinese ship formation training activities
Reporter: It was reported that a Chinese naval vessel recently conducted activities and live-fire drills in waters near Australia. The Australian side accused China of lacking transparency, and Australia’s air traffic control agency issued a notice, which prompted some airlines to adjust their flight plans. What is your comment on this?
Wu Qian: The Australian side’s remarks are totally inconsistent with the facts. The PLA naval vessels conducted exercises in waters far away from the Australian coastline, which are completely international waters. During the exercises, the PLA vessels conducted live-fire training with deck guns against sea targets after issuing safety notices repeatedly in advance. China’s actions are in full compliance with international law and common international practices, and will not affect the safety of aviation. The Australian side is fully aware of the situation, yet it made unwarranted accusations against China and deliberately hyped up the issue. We are deeply perplexed and strongly dissatisfied with this.
China hopes that Australia will view the bilateral and military relations between the two countries with an objective and rational attitude, with more sincerity and professionalism, and truly contribute to the stable development of the relations between the two countries and their militaries.
