The "Tonellero" submarine launched on the same day is the third diesel-electric propulsion submarine in the cooperative submarine development plan signed by Brazil and France in 2008. The "Tonellero" submarine is built after the French "Scorpion-class submarine. It is equipped with four diesel engines and an electric motor. It has an autonomous battery life of more than 70 days and can reach depths of more than 250 meters. According to the Brazilian Navy, the new submarine is equipped with modern missiles, torpedoes and sensors. After the Tonellero was launched, it must also go through a testing phase to assess combat and navigation systems and maritime stability.
