President Xi Jinping emphasized, "Non-commissioned officers are the very fundamental backbone of the military, and the stability of this force is crucial." In a certain year and month, the "Provisional Regulations on Military Personnel" approved and issued by the Central Military Commission changed the title of non-commissioned officers to military personnel. This important discourse reveals the significant role of the military personnel as the core force in army construction. In a sense, without first-class military personnel, there can be no first-class people's army, and the quality of the army largely depends on the quality of the military personnel. Among all the qualities required for growth and success, the ideological and political quality, which is closely related to the primary issues of military personnel training such as "reliability" and "willingness to work," is the most important. Focusing on the ideological and political quality of military personnel is focusing on combat effectiveness.
I. The Dimension of Value: The Significance of Building a Smart Classroom for Ideological and Political Education in Military Officer Pre-Selection Training
Promoting the construction of a smart classroom for ideological and political education in the pre-selection training of military sergeants is of great significance for responding to the call of the leader for the reform of ideological and political education in teaching, strengthening the comprehensive strength of the military sergeants in the new era and new journey to win decisive battles, and achieving victory in future new-quality and new-domain wars.
(I) The Implication of Enhancing the Effectiveness of Ideological and Political Education
In the information age, junior pre-selected non-commissioned officers face a broader spectrum of diverse information impacts and value conflicts. Having just transitioned from civilians to soldiers, they possess a certain degree of independent thinking ability, but they are still immature in distinguishing right from wrong and are prone to being misled by external negative information and erroneous ideologies. Currently, with the advancement of internet technology and deeper military-civilian collaboration, training institutions have abundant and diverse ideological and political education resources. However, issues such as incomplete educational function development, insufficient depth in educational content exploration, and mismatches between the educational subjects and objects in terms of supply and demand persist. Promoting the construction of smart classrooms for ideological and political education in the pre-selection training of non-commissioned officers is conducive to aligning with the national "Great Ideological and Political" construction orientation, utilizing social learning resources, meeting personalized learning needs, and nurturing the ideological and political qualities of junior pre-selected non-commissioned officers in a full-time, all-domain, and multi-dimensional manner. This is an inherent part of enhancing the effectiveness of ideological and political education.
(2) An Imperative Need to Meet the Demands of Military NCO Talent
(III) The Prerequisite Foundation for Achieving the Transformation and Upgrading of the Military
Modern warfare is fought with systems and relies on elite forces. Currently, the role of non-commissioned officers (NCOs) in management and training is becoming increasingly important. Sometimes, even small-scale combat operations are specifically commanded by NCOs. With the reform of military organizational structures, a group of NCOs have taken on critical positions such as boat captains and ship captains. It is foreseeable that in future wars, many positions will shift from being led by officers to being dominated by NCOs. Some key NCO commanders may even take on dual roles as combatants and commanders, with the vanguard and exemplary role of "the head of the soldiers and the tail of the officers" becoming more prominent. If the ideological and political education in the pre-selection training of NCOs is confined to traditional models, it will fail to fully leverage the nurturing and soul-shaping effects of the spring breeze, and the trained NCO talents are likely to fall short in terms of quality, skills, and combat spirit. This will make it impossible for them to effectively fulfill their duties in the early stages of their military service, and in the long run, it will only be an empty talk to drive the transformation and upgrading of the military.
II. The Dimension of Reality: The Logical Approach to the Construction of Smart Classrooms for Ideological and Political Education in Military Officer Pre-selection Training
Integrating the concept of smart classrooms into the teaching practice process can break through the traditional ideological and political education model centered on instructors, where students passively receive knowledge, and create truly enlightening, emotionally resonant ideological and political "golden courses." When outlining the logical framework for the construction of smart classrooms in the ideological and political education of military officer candidate training, it is essential to take President Xi Jinping's scientific judgments on strengthening and improving ideological and political education as the fundamental guideline, and to conduct overall planning with real-world issues as the orientation.
(1) Deeply Cultivate the Teaching Content of Ideological and Political Courses
(2) Innovate the Forms and Methods of Ideological and Political Education
(III) Standardize the Evaluation Criteria for Ideological and Political Education
President Xi Jinping emphasized, "Enhancing combat effectiveness should be the starting point and ultimate goal of all military constructions, and all work should be measured and tested by whether it is conducive to improving combat effectiveness." This important statement clarifies the fundamental issue of "how to evaluate" the ideological and political courses in the smart classrooms for pre-selection training of military personnel, providing a basic basis for standardizing teaching evaluations. As the people's army under the absolute leadership of the Communist Party of China, our military must prioritize political standards. The construction goals of "Four Haves" revolutionary soldiers and "Four Irons" strong troops supplement the capability, spirit, and style standards for evaluating the effectiveness of ideological and political education, establishing an evaluation system fundamentally oriented towards combat effectiveness.
III. Practical Dimension: Methods and Pathways for the Construction of Smart Classrooms in Ideological and Political Education for Military Officer Pre-selection Training
The construction of a smart classroom for ideological and political education in the pre-selection training of non-commissioned officers is both a theoretical issue and a practical task. It requires a comprehensive consideration from three aspects: deepening the teaching content, innovating the teaching forms, and standardizing the teaching evaluation.
(1) Precise teaching content is the basic condition.
Constructing the intelligent classroom content system for ideological and political education in the pre-selection training of non-commissioned officers must be based on the two unified textbooks, "The Outline of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" and "The Outline of Xi Jinping's Thought on Strengthening the Military," accurately grasp the learning situation of the trainees and the online educational environment, and strive to enhance the accuracy of the teaching content.
Accurate control of students' learning status.
In the online teaching model of smart classrooms, the spatial asynchrony between instructors and learners poses challenges to learners' ability to concentrate and maintain focus. The negative impact of external factors on classroom teaching is more pronounced. Precise analysis of learners' academic performance should be conducted to enhance the relevance and appeal of teaching content. By increasing learners' enthusiasm and initiative for autonomous learning, the goal of personalized education that meets individual learning needs can be achieved. Firstly, starting from the knowledge background, accurately grasp the "root" of learners' academic performance. The smart classroom for political education in military officer pre-selection training offers various ways to optimize academic performance analysis, such as the "learner profile," "pre-class assessment," and "preview feedback" features of the online teaching platform. These facilitate the collection and analysis of basic academic performance related to subject background and professional abilities, laying the foundation for improving the precision of teaching content. Secondly, focusing on interests and hobbies, accurately grasp the "essence" of learners' academic performance. The smart classroom for political education in military officer pre-selection training provides learners with an open discussion platform where they can showcase curiosity and attention, express doubts and reflections. Relying on the sharing of teaching resources before class, the release of interactive questions during class, and discussions in study groups after class, the points of confusion and interest of learners are transformed into visual data and text, making academic performance analysis more scientific and convincing. This helps to align teaching content more closely with learners' cognitive characteristics and learning needs, providing assistance in improving the precision of teaching content.
Accurate alignment with online teaching environments.
The online and offline teaching content in smart classrooms is not a simple copy-and-paste process. When determining the online teaching content, instructional designers not only need to use various technological means to screen, categorize, and integrate the offline teaching content but also need to adjust the structure of the knowledge framework based on educational principles and logical thinking habits. They should enhance the precision of the teaching content by leveraging the graphical and fragmented characteristics of the online teaching environment in smart classrooms: First, by utilizing the graphical features to make the teaching content visual. The smart classroom for political education in military candidate training relies on the technical support of the internet to flexibly apply diverse audio-visual materials and rich MOOC resources in teaching, presenting dry theoretical knowledge through concise, clear, and compelling graphical resources; Second, by leveraging the fragmented features to modularize the teaching content. The smart classroom for political education in military candidate training actively explores a modular teaching quality improvement model, adjusting the sequence and duration of teaching units, and organizing the teaching content into coherent and logically smooth knowledge modules.
(2) Effective teaching interaction is a key element.
To construct a smart classroom teaching method system for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training, efforts must be coordinated in three aspects: pre-class guided learning phase with preset interactions, in-class teaching phase with real-time interactions, and post-class consolidation phase with extended interactions.
Optimize the preset interactions during the pre-learning phase of the lesson.
During the pre-class orientation phase, the smart classroom for ideological and political education in military officer pre-selection training can use micro-lessons or short videos for pre-class introduction, organize students into online groups, guide students in discussion and communication, and have students identify what they need to "learn," thereby smoothly transforming the key points of the textbook into the students' focus points and stimulating their enthusiasm for theoretical learning.
Optimize real-time interaction during the classroom teaching phase.
During the classroom teaching phase, the ideological and political education smart classroom for military officer candidate training can utilize platform features such as "bullet comments," "viewpoint debates," and "hand-raising quizzes" to monitor students' thoughts through metrics like the number of comments, discussions, and quizzes. This allows for timely adjustments to the teaching content. Relying on real-time feedback, activities such as "microphone connection exchanges," "brainstorming sessions," and "real-time voting" can be organized to enhance the engagement of the teaching activities.
Optimize extended interactions during the after-school consolidation phase.
During the stage of consolidating after-class learning, the smart classroom for ideological and political education in the military officer pre-selection training can utilize platform functions such as "answering questions and resolving doubts," "receiving and distributing assignments," "in-class tests," and "private communication between teachers and students," creating conditions for personalized after-class tutoring for instructors. This can effectively extend the role of ideological and political education after class, positively impacting the enhancement of teaching effectiveness and the optimization of teaching feedback.
(III) Scientific Evaluation of Teaching is an Important Guarantee
Constructing a smart classroom evaluation system for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training should fully leverage the advantages of instant feedback and open-ended modes of online teaching platforms to ensure professional and objective assessment of the quality and effectiveness of ideological and political education.
Relying on instant feedback, achieve the integration of process evaluation and outcome evaluation.
Due to the relatively single means of collecting evaluation materials for traditional ideological and political courses in offline teaching, the evaluation tends to focus on outcome assessment when assessing the quality and effectiveness of teaching. However, the online teaching conducted in the smart classroom for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training generates real-time teaching feedback as the teaching activities progress, addressing issues such as difficulty in leaving a trace and delayed feedback in offline teaching evaluations. Firstly, real-time feedback enhances the accuracy of process evaluation. In the online teaching of ideological and political courses in the smart classroom for military officer candidate training, the platform's real-time presentation of interactive communication content improves the synchronization between quality evaluation and the teaching process, revealing details that traditional evaluation methods cannot reflect, making process evaluation more objective and accurate. Secondly, real-time feedback enhances the timeliness of outcome evaluation. In the online teaching of ideological and political courses in the smart classroom for military officer candidate training, the application of information technology improves the efficiency of collecting and analyzing outcome evaluation data, making it possible to process complex continuous data, thereby facilitating better dynamic monitoring and management of teaching quality and effectiveness.
Relying on an open model, achieve the integration of internal evaluation and external evaluation.
Due to the differentiated characteristics of evaluation criteria held by different evaluation subjects, scientific evaluation of teaching quality and effectiveness requires the joint participation of diverse evaluation subjects. The limitations of time and space in offline teaching confine the evaluation to a limited and singular group of subjects. In contrast, the open model of online teaching in the smart classroom for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training provides an opportunity for the introduction of diverse evaluation subjects. Firstly, the open model of online teaching can enhance the high diversity of internal subject evaluations. Traditional evaluations of ideological and political education often involve students, peer instructors, and industry experts as internal subjects. However, subjective will and random factors in the evaluation process may affect the evaluation results. In the open platform environment of the smart classroom for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training, the number of internal evaluation subjects expands as the classroom space opens up, and their observation perspectives continuously broaden with the multi-dimensional expression of classroom information. This allows for better differentiated and multi-dimensional evaluations based on diverse discussion focuses and examination perspectives. Secondly, the open model of online teaching can empower high coverage evaluations by external subjects. As the saying goes, "those involved may be confused while outsiders see clearly," external evaluations serve as an important supplement to internal evaluations, helping to identify issues through broader horizontal comparisons. The online teaching in the smart classroom for ideological and political education in military officer candidate training makes it possible for a wider range of internal and external subjects to participate in evaluations, promoting a comparison between classroom theoretical teaching effects and extracurricular real-life behavior, as well as complementing internal peer mutual evaluations with industry expert guidance and supervision. This allows the evaluation work to be conducted under a broader perspective, providing strong support for the improvement of teaching quality and effectiveness.
IV. Conclusion
In today's era, modern information technology holds immense potential and offers broad prospects. The role of educational informatization will become increasingly significant in the endeavors of building a strong nation and a powerful military. The construction of smart ideological and political classrooms for the pre-selection training of military personnel aligns with the trends of the times, maximizing the educational utility of a blended online and offline teaching model. This has a positive impact on enhancing the modernization of the educational governance system and governance capabilities.
