BYD recruits nearly 10,000 employees in a month
BYD currently has a total of over 10,000 employees, making it the listed automaker with the largest number of employees.
"In ~ month, BYD increased production by nearly 10,000 units in three months, recruited nearly 10,000 people for both vehicle assembly and parts, and all bases are operating at full capacity. The production, procurement, and other operational teams have made tremendous and arduous efforts." Recently, He Zhiqi, Executive Vice President of BYD Group, said so on social media.
Since the beginning of the month, BYD has launched large-scale recruitment of over 10,000 people in multiple production bases across the country, primarily targeting frontline operators, technical workers, forklift operators, and others. Specifically, in October, BYD initiated two rounds of recruitment in its Zhengzhou production base, collectively recruiting 10,000 people for operator and technician positions. Following that, the Shenshan BYD Automobile Industrial Park also started a concentrated recruitment drive for 10,000 frontline workers, and the BYD Xi'an production base also launched a recruitment drive for 10,000 frontline workers.
Why did BYD launch a recruitment plan for 10,000 workers in multiple regions? The recruitment personnel from BYD's production bases stated that after the launch of the fifth-generation products, BYD's order volume has significantly increased. The latest data shows that BYD's monthly sales have exceeded 10,000 units. The existing large production bases in China are currently operating at full capacity, closely following the order volume. However, the biggest constraint on increasing production capacity at present is the labor issue, with the most urgent need being for frontline operating staff. Therefore, regions have begun large-scale recruitment plans for frontline employees since the month.
In terms of job responsibilities, the main tasks of an operator involve simple assembly of products, with no high educational requirements. In contrast, technical workers require a higher level of qualification, at least several years of work experience. In terms of salary, the monthly comprehensive income for frontline operators ranges from ¥X to ¥Y, while for technical workers, it ranges from ¥Z to ¥W.
A human resources manager at the Shenshan BYD Automobile Industrial Park stated that the first phase of the industrial park can provide over 10,000 job positions, and the second phase can provide over 20,000 job positions. Currently, the factory area already has over 10,000 employees, and it is expected that the demand for positions will reach over 30,000 in the future. The reporter also learned that the BYD Zhengzhou and Xi'an bases are still continuously recruiting frontline employees to ensure the steady expansion of subsequent production capacity.
The latest data shows that BYD currently has over 10,000 employees, making it the listed automaker with the largest number of staff. However, it is important to note that BYD's business covers automotive manufacturing, mobile phone components and assembly, energy storage technology, and rail transit, among other areas. The current 10,000 employees are not limited to the automotive manufacturing business but span multiple departments across these business domains, from frontline workshop workers to top management. Among BYD's 10,000 employees, nearly 10,000 are technical research and development personnel, which means BYD has become the automaker with the largest number of R&D staff globally.
According to the annual reports of several domestic listed companies, as of the specified date, SAIC Motor had approximately 200,000 employees, Dongfeng Motor had 160,000 employees, GAC Group had approximately 80,000 employees, and Changan Automobile had nearly 80,000 employees. In terms of foreign automakers, as of the specified month, Volkswagen had about 670,000 global employees, Toyota had over 370,000 global employees, Hyundai had over 75,000 global employees, and Tesla had approximately 127,000 global employees. The number of employees at these automakers was significantly lower than that of BYD.
It is worth noting that, currently, as the penetration rate of new energy vehicles gradually increases, traditional car manufacturers, represented by internal combustion engine vehicles, have been reducing salaries and laying off employees both domestically and internationally. In contrast, several new energy vehicle manufacturers, including BYD, have begun recruitment plans due to rising order volumes, primarily targeting frontline operational staff or technical workers. For example, Xiaomi Motors is hiring a large number of workers with a maximum monthly salary of 10,000 yuan, including year-end bonuses, aiming to deliver 10,000 new vehicles annually. Seres' factory in Chongqing has also started a large-scale recruitment of frontline workers due to a surge in orders, with salaries ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 yuan. Similarly, Xiaopeng Motors' Zhaoqing factory has begun recruiting nearly a hundred frontline general workers and forklift operators, with salaries ranging around 5,000 yuan.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "Guidelines for the Development Plan of Manufacturing Talent" indicates that by the year, China's talent gap in the new energy vehicle industry could reach one million people. Among these, the greatest demand is for skilled workers, followed by sales, service personnel, and engineers.
